Site Flipping Slowdown ?

Discussion in 'General Business' started by Whippet75, Apr 10, 2009.

Over the past month, I have noticed a big difference in the amount of interest there is for people wanting to buy websites.

I used to be able to post a site on DP and within 10 minutes, there would be prospective buyers posting/PMing me for more information.

Now this does not seem to be the case, it is a lot harder to flip in this climate and I have had two websites up for sale for more than two weeks !

What do you think ? Is site flipping (as we know it!) finished ?

Accept the fact that the current economy is not good.
I have listed some of my website for sale at sitepoint but until today still no buyer want to buy.
This situation is temporary,so don't worry.
Its better if you take this time to optimize your site to earn more money.

    Are they overpriced?
Maybe people have wisened up. Naah.. people never learn.

I personally have given up buying websites since 99% of the time they're poorly coded, with artifically inflated numbers.

I don't think that a valid W3 coding will help you to earn some money ( when selling a site ).

It sure helps if you plan to buy a website and develop it. You buy it, find out it's coded so badly you'd need to totally re-code it, then throw it away.

If you sell a site, it should be already developed & buyers are interested because of some stable income, not because of a chance to do something with it ( that's for now ) ;)

I think it is a combination of bad economy as well as so many people got caught up in the website flipping thing that once they started buying these websites they knew were built just to be sold they found out that there was no real base on these websites. A lot of times they bought these websites that had some traffic but little to no loyal following so the traffic fell off within days and they were stuck with a website that isn't any better than if someone started one from scratch.

guys, info Product sites still sell.
I was researching the other day, and more or less all of em sell. Maybe because of the fact that these websites are only sold when they have a steady traffic base.
But cmon, for how long did you expect to sell a "fancy showcase of 10 articles, just for the name sake that its a blog!"
People ought to have wisened up by now.

So i guess the solution is, that we start selling some Quality and Substantial websites.

"After all its we guys only who make or break the flipping niche"
lets now spoil it by flooding the marketplace with loads of useless sites, with fake claims of its potential and blah blah

I agree. I was referring in my post above to those who do the default style blog theme, write 4-5 unique articles, and have a pagerank of 2. I was seeing these bought up for $300-$500 a pop awhile back when the earning potential was possibly $25 a month on a good month and it usually decreased for awhile once someone took it over. A lot of these didn't make since. Product websites still do sell if they are making a profit or selling something niche enough and has a good brand. I compare the product websites to more of an actual business which you don't see much in the "site flipping."

obviously, "Site flipping" from the name only indicates, stuff and sell.
Even now I will be doing Site Flipping, but after generating some Worth while revenue and a satisfactory traffic base.

What do you think about the prospects of a site with solid content, lasting pagerank and 3 months of consistently strong earnings and traffic? Would such a site still be attractive to buyers?

I think it basically comes down to the following:

    1) Is the domain brandable and easy to remember ?
    2) Does the site have traffic ?
    3) Does the site have any revenue ?

I think PR is also a necessity to get a higher value for the site....however, is it not necessary as long as the prospective buyer can see the potential value in the site.

    Definitely namedia,
We were just discussing the redundancy of Freshly SetUp websites, with 0 traffic and no advertisement, hoping to sell for $$$$
