Is this all what it takes to create a website?

    Hi All

I have a few domain names registered. I wanted to have a Lyrics related website on one of them. Well I am not a techie so I just wanted your opinion if the approach I am using to do my website is right. I am not looking for something extraordinary-just a database of Lyrics and a fairly good presentation to the visitor. Here is what I know

Buy a Domain->Buy a Lyrics database->Buy a script to present the data to the user->Host the website->Get SEO done->Good to go.

    Appreciate your time and help

    Thanks

A good lyrics script should have a basic database, several themes, and be SEO friendly.

So, you really only need to do these steps:
    1. Get domain.
    2. Get hosting.
    3. Install and configure script.
    4. Setup ads.
    5. Promote site.
    6. Profit. :D

    Thanks

Got confused again :D.. I thougt script and database are different things. What I assumed was that you have a database with lot of things stored in it and some magician writes a script for you and that script pulls the data from the database and present it to the user. You can modify the script to modify the look and feel of your webpage. I thought script was just a few lines of code..

What you are trying to say is script is everything-basic database, several themes, and be SEO friendly

Oh God who the hell created computer..I hate this thing

aye, cash nebula says it all really. Creating any website is easy but there are usually alot of hidden steps and details at each stage. When i approach a new niche to enter i do alot of planning in advance on SEO then get the domain and hosting set up, code the website (you can use a script) and set up any features i will be using, publish content, get it indexed, get it ranked then monitise. Just remember to do research on the competition before you do anything else.

They are separate, just bundled together for convenience. If you want more songs, you buy additional lyrics packs and upload them to your database. If you want a custom theme, you have to buy that as well.

Expect to pay between $50 and $100 for a good script that has all you need to make a lyrics site.

I'd just like to add one basic thing, and that is a good host. Ensure your site will have good uptime. Maybe its not relevant but I operated a site an year or so ago which had around 100k impressions daily and when you have downtime, nothing pisses off your visitors more.

Unfortunately I don't completely agree :) You've painted a pretty much shallow approach to the topic.

Think I've noticed another topic by the same OP where he mentioned he's bought a MySQL database with the abovementioned lyrics texts. So if there isn't any script attached to that database which operates with the data we have some more decisions to make...

First, you need to have a clear idea about how your site would look (you can just check the already existing lyrics sites). Then you need to pick a suitable platform - either pay a web developer and/or designer so they create a custom script for you and implement it in a good looking website, created also by them (can be expensive), or use some free template/content management system and find a programmer to create basic script to display lyrics + search functionality. The second approach would be hard if you don't already have some technical skills. You will need to merge the script into the existing design etc. ..

Expect to spend money on SEO too. Quality services are expensive. And I don't mean the so popular "manual submissions in 3000 directories" kind.

My advice is do some research in advance if you stand a chance among all that competition (search Google for "song lyrics" or something) and do your calculations if the whole mumbo-jumbo is worth for you...

If you are completely new to webmastering but have willingness to improve, maybe you'd prefer to start with something that doesn't require any significant investments. Like start a personal blog (read some basics about blogging first!) - free software, free design (theme), lots of info on the matter. In a couple of months you'd be much more prepared for a more complicated project.

You have shown a verry limited aproach to this concept, web coding ect can get verry complicated and there are alot of troubles you could be over looking.

Hey, what's wrong with shallow and cheap? Half of the web is built that way! :D

For lyrics scripts, it doesn't pay to build your own anymore. You can get complete packages for a song these days ;)

Plan the whole process, make sure all the products you're using are compatible. Make sure your script will work with your host, and make sure you find a good list of songs in the same database format or that will cause you nightmares.
