I just finished my first squidoo "lens" and would like to get some tips from other squidoo users... Please share your tips and tricks about Squidoo here...
yeah, people have been using it for a long time for traffic and sales even when it wasn't too saturated, my advice ... scale up, and make more lenses. It looks good though.
It's good looking lense, but an even better niche ! Hostels are very popular with International travelers where I live, so I can really appreciate the subject matter. Personally, I haven't put much time into Squidoo. and I find it very slow and frustrating to work with, so I haven't seen any success with it, but from what I hear, other webmasters have been able to leverage it into some decent traffic. I'm more of a , "just build another blog", or write an article kind of guy, which to me is what Squidoo is, Article marketing with photos and links, which is an excellent way to bum market..it's just one of the many ways that I haven't really wanted to tackle..I mean with so many different ways to market, you really can't do them all for every site that you have..different ways work better with different niches. I love the fact that you actually run a hostel, and travel frequently..definitely gives you so much more credibility than just blogging about something that you don't do...perfect example of "pick a niche that you know and you'll be successful".
I've not seen much increase in traffic from Squidoo, but it's a nice site to build some contextual links. Some people have even reported sales from their lenses
Very nice. I am assuming the Hostel website that the links go to is yours as well.... Visually appealing site........ the great think about a lense is you don't lose anything but time if it doesn't work........ Please keep us informed as to how this works for you......
I tested Squidoo with some ideas and found out this. I took a very good lens that was getting little traffic, I did 1 week of adsense and the traffic was huge. I created a terrible lens that got no traffic at all for the same time period. I paused the good lens and added adsense to the terrible one and got even more traffic on the terrible lens and more clicks and sales then the good one. So, others might know tricks to get traffic to the lens, but I have found if you are not a giant squid and have 50+ lenses and do not do adsense you will not get much traffic. Just like anything else I see certain lenses getting favored when there are far better lenses, come on Woodstock Festival 1969 is ranked no. 5 out of 1 million lenses???? How to donate your hair is now ranked 15th. Tells me you can have an awesome lens and never get traffic unless you meet certain criteria or are one of those with an "in".
Squidoo isn't a bad place to do some promotion. But it isn't the be all / end all. Like the lense you did btw. Make some friends over at squidoo and you'll see some increased rankings.
squidoo pages used to rank very high on Google couple of years back and due to massive abuse by online pharmacy affiliates and other spammers, Google is not paying any special attention to squidoo pages anymore. hgowever, they are still good for driving traffic from squidoo network and if you can build a properly optimized lens, with a little bit of promotion, you still can do well with squidoo for long tail keywords. not to mention the contextual backlinks to your main site will have great value as well.
A very good first lens. One tip: Break the text up into a few text/write modules. Use each heading within your text as a module heading.
This lens is good and different than a typical one, anyway i don't see squidoo as a good traffic source as Digg, Stumble. But it helps to increase backlinks.

That's really good Lens. You can join groups and can comment on other lenses. Don't forget to favorite and give star rating to others lens which you find interesting. You can also join squidu forum and generate traffic from there. Best of luck to you,
looks nice, there is a debate lurking around that squidoo is adding the no follow tags. hopefully not, but something to keep an eye out for.
You also will find to get ranked both in Squidoo and Google in most cases you have to have 50 good lenses or you will never ranked. Once you get 50 good lenses you will see the rise, I tested it and found out that once I had 50 lenses many of my lenses went to the top. So I played the game and deleted 2 of them on purpose and what happened? Down they all went. I also do not like the rating game they play, you have to beg someone to rate your lenses and then they do not usually return the favor. Ratings also gets you up in the rankings. Many of us have better things to do then play a game all day when the owner of the site is making a killing on adsense and other ads and trying to get people to believe all lensmasters are sharing. Yea right! Believe me the pot going to the lens makers is very small. How about 4.45 for the month of February for 51 lenses all ranked high until i pulled a couple of them. Thanks for the 4.45 payment. That is about -125.00 per hour worked on my lenses. You had better hope you get a ton of clicks to your landing or affiliate sites or you will lose money on Squidoo. ( otherwords not collect for your time ) Now I know why he is called a marketing genius, he has found a way to get everyone to work their butts off to make him a small fortune and pass out pennies to the worker bees.
