    I think it just depends on your situation.

    If you are trying to create a sitemap for wordpress, there are excellent free sitemap generators.

    I guess the same can be said for some e-commerces sites. Although I have found that there are some paid plugins for oscommerce that are much better than the free one. especially if you have a seo freindly urls.

    if you have a website with < 500 pages i suggest using the free software at xml-sitemaps its free and it works well for seo friendly urls

    gsite crawler is also a pretty well known product, I haven't using it in some time but i do know it work the couple of times i used it.

    So i guess it is just depends on your situation.

    what is your situation? maybe we can suggest the best free and paid sitemap generator for you.
