I have somehow managed to get my site listed in DMOZ, even though my domain is only just over a month old.

I was just interested to know if there are actually any benefits other than the steady traffic (few hits a day) it brings?

What results have people seen as a result of being listed in DMOZ?

    My site: eaguingamp.co.uk

We don't look at age; we look at content.

    Congrats!

You won't get much traffic from DMOZ itself, but your site will rise in the Google SERPs for the anchor text of your link in dmoz "En Avant Guingamp". Which I see you are already #3 for. :D

You will also get a boost in SERPs for any of the keywords in your DMOZ listings description: "Squad, history, stadium, live scores and contact."

Please report back in a few weeks and tell if you make it to #1 for En Avant Guingamp (over the official site).

I will do! It would be great if I could topple the official site, need to build some more valuable links.

Will report back in a few weeks!

I can tell you how he did it. He suggested a listable website just once to the correct category. That was the 'secret' that few seem to either believe or follow.

That an interested editor happened to check the category soon afterwards and list it was good fortune, not something he did.

Just added it to the exact category, does not matter how low down the chain it is, as long as it is relevant to my site.

I think many people try and place their sites at a really high category as they think it will benefit them more.

Spot on. If you find the right category the site is only reviewed once by an editor or possible listing, if that editor then has to move the site to another category, s/he may be able to actually do that within the authority s/he has, but they may not be able to do so and can only send the site on for another editor to review. Sometimes even if one could list the site, the editor may be working through the list of submissions and to actually find the new category, describe the site etc is not the work they had in mind, so they send it on too for another editor to review. There is no telling how long it will be before a second editor looks at the site. So not adding it to the correct site could delay a possible listing by months or years. Moral....get it right when submitting your site.

My client's site is also approved in just 20 days in dmoz. The dmoz editor checks the content of the site, design and trustable to others or not. My client was not agree to add contact address and I know this is also important and dmoz editor checks the address also.

No, sorry, we don't do site checks anymore. Could take 5 years to get listed, we are not a listing service, offering sites for consideration is just one means we have to build the directory, so no one can say when your site might be reviewed. If it conforms to guidelines, it is likely in a Q waiting a review, if not it will be rejected when it is reviewed. Offering it again will not help. If it's in a Q it will not move it anywhere, your new submission overwrites the old one. If its been rejected it will be again. Forget it, there is nothing more you can do.

I just get paid in insults by people suggesting that I am not a volunteer editor who receives absolutely no payment, except enjoying my hobby, who also spends time here hoping to help people who have difficulties with DMOZ, sometimes the answers are not what people want to hear, sometimes we can clarify, sometimes we get told we are corrupt.

Sadly theres more to it than that, because there is, as is the case with most directories, a fair amount of "dross" on Dmoz :(

 That is entirely untrue. A site that does not fit the criteria for a listing that is rejected CAN resubmit and get listed once it fits the criteria...

Are you sure you are an editor?
