Sounds like the aquisition talks are still in the early stages, if this rumour is at all true.

It would certainly be a good move for Google. Social search is the coming thing, in my opinion.

I recall reading that Twitter have yet to turn a profit, but if anyone can monetize it Google probably can.

Yes I think this is the best buy right now. Twitter is going to be ten of times if not more larger than it is now no doubt.

The talks are in the early stages so I would agree that we shouldn't jump to conclusions but the acquisition seems likely to me. With the founders of Twitter selling Blogger to Google just a few years ago and Google already dominating much of the internet the addition of Twitter could only benefit them.

It wouldn't surprise me if Google really buys it, it seems like a great buy and Google will probably be the best buyer, if not the only one possible for something like that...

It sounds like a typical Google move. They see Twitter as a website with lots of potential...a decent user base, good technolgoy and lots of ad real estate. So instead of trying to build the same thing up they just try to acquire it. At least they might be getting away from trying the same concept half assed themselves first. Overall its a smart move by Google though...especially with the recession timing.
