Pagerank vs. Search Results

Discussion in 'Google' started by bigmny4you, Apr 2, 2009.

I visit the forum at least 1 time a week to see what's going on and what people are discussing. I just survived the Google dance with outstanding results. Page 1 on all major search engines including GOOGLE. Of course my traffic has tripled in just the past week. So here's the thing...

My site is only a Pagerank of 1 on the home page...competing against over 200,000,000 so this is real!!!

    My question is this...

Would you rather have a high Pagerank or a Page 1 search result?

Good serps would always win the vote....hands down...

Traffic is very important than anything else for all the websites and search engines provide excellent quality visitors.

Yeah me too...also an update I was unaware of...now PR2 on homepage

for giggles my main search term is [internet marketing techniques] (of course) and I have not spent any time at all worrying about Pagerank or backlinks and my site is only 10 1/2 months old!!!

SERPS will always win. Who cares about PR?

High PR gives you nothing but bragging rights.

    High SERPS gives you $$$$

The page rank of one of my major sites dropped from PR3 to PR0 during the recent page rank update. I am concerned if it will affect my SERP rankings because it is ranked no 1 for certain keywords. So far, there has not been any drop in SERP or traffic yet. Your comments are appreciated.

Many will say that page rank has nothing to do with search results, but in fact has actually to do more or less but it might depends, not in all cases it's the same.

Well there are some keywords or phrases if you querry for them it returns a massive volume search results in google but the traffic that my came for those specific keywords or phrases searches can be also very low.

I prefer to be on the first page on google for a keyword/phrase insted of page rank.
But if the traffic is low and you got medium or high pr it can be really profitable if you sell links :p

I love high SERPS too however I have a small section in my heart for PR :)
I believe PR will effect us in the long future especially if we intend to create one of the best sites online. Also PR is good when selling sites. Shows that we have some quality sites.

Ain't this question like asking a teenager to choose between "Sex" (SERP) and a "Roasted turkey" (PR) .. barring a few (like Jughead) there would be no exceptions :D

I am not sure why SERPS and PR are compared this way, maybe its people venting their frustration on their own 'green bar' rating.

I ran a poll here recently, to see what kind of websites people owned, the highest percentage site was advertisement based, to these guys pageranking will be important.

My own site has good serps, a good stream of visitors and a pr of 5, I dont choose pr or serps, I just want my site to be the best it can be. pr and serps are a measure my efforts.

There is a correlation between pr and serps, to gain good serps especially in competitive sectors you need to build links, pr is based around link building. So really they should work hand in hand. Of course the actual numbers are not that important, conversions are. I work for 2 very wealthy businessmen, both their sites have a pr of 3. It makes no difference to them at all, they still earn well in excess of £100,000 a month.

I think all of us here do it for the SERPS not page rank. you can monetize your traffic not a pagerank sign ))))

88% of my traffic is from search engines. So the first page in the search engine results is my goal.

However, I do believe from Google's comments at http://www.google.com/corporate/tech.html that PageRank contributes some to your search engine results:

"Pages that we believe are important pages receive a higher PageRank and are more likely to appear at the top of the search results."

What would I need a high PR for if I were still resting somewhere in peaceful oblivion? Just to pacify my vanity? It's common knowledge that it's serps that you need (and yes, that was a great metaphor, max pain :)).

But there is a catch to that: is it theoretically possible for a PR 8 page to rank shamelessly low?
