I just happened along this today. Because of the recent April fools day virus I downloaded a few anti-virus programs onto my computer. One aspect of these companies is that if you have their software, they have teamed up with search engines to put a marker next to "good" sites and "malicious" sites. If you own the site you can submit your site to that particular program. Here's the kicker. To test your site, they send bots, then people. LOL. Traffic. And, these companies aren't small. I went through all my pages and submitted each one, as if I were submitting it to google. I don't know if all of them do it, but it would be worth it, to download all their zip files and install each one and submit each one. If nothing else, your site shows up as submitted and "good" to people that use those programs. At best you get traffic from all those companies. A sort of back-door traffic. Just thought I'd share that with you guys. Don't drink and drive [call a cab cheap skate]
Yeah. I personally don't see a problem with it. Setup dummy email adress, download and register the product. Then go to google or yahoo, bring up your site and there should be the "safe site" icon. The installation gives you direct access to that company through their own submission page. There's no other way to get to the submission page without the product being installed.
I've got 4 Linux systems and nothing running Windows. Using WINE to run antivirus applications sounds like a really bad idea to me. It sure would be nice to know the addresses those applications are communicating with.
There must be easier ways of generating a few visitors. For example, cutting off your hand and writing your URL in blood on the street.
I see. Well as far as i know, installing the actual program gives you access to those applications. Because, logically only a mcafee person would have the internet add on to see the mcafee "safe" little icons.
I am not sure about the quality of the traffic that it will get to your website. There is no point in getting traffic which is not targeted to our preferred niche. The whole concent of SEO is to get the targeted traffic. Othewise, there are lots of ways to get such untargeted traffic.
Actually it woks in tandum with the search engines. So the traffic by its nature is targeted. They submit it to test groups. So someone searching on google enters the keyword, finds your website and tests for any problems, bugs, virus, malicious warz.
