I am quite new to this SMS service feature but was amazed after using the group SMS service on smsgupshup. I would also like to have one on my website. So i was curious of getting some answers about it: The smsgupshup website provides sending sms to groups for free, can this be made on my website? How much does a premium SMS number, 5-6 digit costs in India? If 5-6 digit numbers are too expensive, can we use our normal 10 digit mobile number? How does the SMS gateway works, i have seen many sites offering free international SMS sending and when i browsed for SMS gateways, most of the reputed companies charge per SMS. So in this case how does people offer free SMS? I would really appreciate if somebody could shed a light on this. I have been using smsgupshup to send SMS to my group and my group has become quite popular, but most of the members are annoyed by the ads. So please could anyone help me with this? Thanks

The price is depend on the number and telco you chose.The more easy to remember the code then the more expensive it will be. If 5-6 digit numbers are too expensive, can we use our normal 10 digit mobile number? Yes. So in this case how does people offer free SMS? They offer it free in exchange it will increase their site traffic thus increase their ads earning.
The information that I have with me is that you need to purchase SMS credits. They come in two types:- 1. Send SMS 2. Send SMS with free reply For complete information, you can visit smscountry.com. They provide the SMS gateway. But I am afraid that its a costly affair. Just want to know that for what purpose you need a SMS gateway? Are you thinking of running your own site where people can send free SMS? If so, then I suggest you not. Its a waste of money and resources and you will end up with nothing.
Thanks for replying mentos! I just want to run my own group of SMS service, where i should be able to send SMS from my website and without any advertisements. Would that be possible, and how much do you think will it cost?
Not sure if you read my reply, you can do that by purchasing SMS credits from smscountry.com and then integrate it in your website using the API's. Hope that helps you friend.
SMS and Mobile is the way to go if you want to make some serosu money in india. And all the Mobile VAS services. I have also been thinking of doing something on this ... Any Indian Company offering this kind of service? DO you know the rates companies like Airtel might charge for paid SMS?
Hi All, Does anybody know how SMS short codes work for premium services in India? Do they apply only to Ringtones, Wallpapers, and Games? How do I get a 5-7 digit short code? Do I have to take permission from all carriers in India like Airtel, BSNL, Hutch..? What is the cost associated? I am thinking of offering a service in which user will be able to pay Rs 10 to Rs 50 depending on the service type and keyword used.
