    I would also suggest wordpress or blogger if this is you first time to blog.
    Also, blog about what you're interested in and choose a good domain.

    My tip - Don't go overboard with content. Write something decent, then spend way more time marketing it than writing more.

    First, determine your blog's topic, and do some keyword research on how often a keyword is searched on the search engines.

    I bet there's been posted a lot of good tips here already, but here's some of mine (personal experiences):
    - Find a niche that you're interested in.
    - Do NOT place ads on your site from the very beginning
    - Try to advertise for free via Facebook, forum signatures, Twitter, etc.
    - Read other peoples blogs, mainly those who's got a lot of readers, to see how you should write, BUT:
    - Do not copy anyone elses type of writing.
