Hosting Site Making $525/month

I am starting graduate school soon and am unloading all of my online properties. This is the first of a few auctions.

Up for sale is http://www dot competitivehost dot com

I bought the site a few months ago because I wanted to learn the hosting business. I didn't realize I would get an acceptance to graduate school so soon :)

The site grosses an average of $496.42/month.

The costs for the server can't be exactly specified since I have all my company websites on them. There are two right now, but one would be enough minus my stuff.

So the costs for the new owner:
Server: $190.99 (includes all currently used IPs, plus a few extra)
    cPanel/Fantastico Licenses: $125
    WHMCS: $15.95
    HyperVM (50 VPSs): $25
    Costs: $356.94
    Monthly Profit: 139.48

    A couple other optional costs:
Being as I don't know much about VPS or server administration, I have been paying an employee to keep up with tickets, server admin, etc. Currently he is being paid $50/month. He will continue to help if the new owner is interested.

Also, I have been paying for a paid chat software. You can use a free one if you like. It costs $30/month.

This is NOT a get rich quick scheme. This is a serious business that takes time to run/promote/manage. It has been really easy for me since I have been paying someone else to handle day to day stuff, but I don't make much profit. I have only promoted the site a few times here and at web hosting talk. Everytime I do, I get at least 2 new clients, sometimes more.

I have a partnership with a Brazilian host. I give him discounts on our VPSs and he takes care of his Brazilian clients. I just go through him for everything. This doesn't make up a large portion of the clients, but is has been picking up lately.

I will help you take over the site by answering any questions for you. If you want to keep the second server for growth, you will need to pay for it. I think the due date is in a couple weeks. It is around 180/month. Otherwise, I will be moving my sites to shared hosting somewhere you will need to move the VPSs on that server over to the main one. That will be your responsibility. The control panel we use for the VPSs is HyperVM. If you aren't familiar with this control panel, I suggest you keep on the employee I have helping me. He is REALLY good at what he does and takes care of things for a relatively low cost.

Please ask any questions you have and I will answer them. This site is good for someone who is looking to get into the hosting business and wants a real online business. Please don't buy it if you are going to close down in two months; I don't want to do the clients this way.

The servers are at Limestone Networks. I currently have a $55 credit there that can be used toward the servers.

    Starting bid: $500
    BIN: $1200

I just found a cPanel/Fantastico License that isn't being used. That means take $20 off expenses and add that to profit.

    Questions I've received via PM:

Are the clients monthly, quarterly, yearly???

    There are:
    31 Monthly Clients
    3 Quarterly
    1 Annual

Can the clients be moved to another service provider?

The clients can be moved to a another provider, but I will say it will be difficult to find another provider for the same price.

The base price for the servers at Limestone is $134. That includes:

    Core 2 Duo
    8 Gig Ram
    750 GB HD
    Unmetered Bandwidth

The extra cost is with all the IPs and Licenses the clients use.

I'm not sure how difficult it would be to move them over to another provider, but I assume it would cause problems with IP addresses and downtime. But again, that decision is up to the new owner. Jose (the one who helps me) would MAYBE be able to better answer that question.

To (hopefully) spark some interest, I am lowering the starting bid to $450.

    Matthew

Interested, can you post what vps plans you are offering?

How many vps on this one server with vps's?

On the vps node are you ONLY hosting vps's clients of a mixed of shared hosting, and vps's?

If you are also hosting share clients, are they running off the node or out of a vps created on the node?

    Sure, is my MSN ID.

There is 14 on one and 18 on the other. The new owner would need to move them over to one server. They are a lot of the small plan VPSs, so it wouldn't be a problem.

    http://www.competitivehost.com/vps.php

The server only has VPSs on it. We have our own VPS for the site (competitivehost), the shared/reseller hosting, and my company sites (which will be moved).

The servers are located at Limestone Networks, which is in Dallas, TX (USA).

Also, please note this hosting company is unmanaged, which means we only provide essential support. This is why the prices are lower than managed VPS services.

    Thanks for the bids guys.

    $550 is the high bid.

    Minimum of $50 increases please.

As a note, I have been talking to people about the site and thought I'd share here what I have talked with them about. I HIGHLY recommend keeping the second server. You will need it to grow (since one server would be full as it stands now) and it will be a lot easier since it is already set-up in WHMCS. Also, I would be willing to pay someone to keep my sites there. Probably like $20-25/month. I know it eats into the profit, but it is essential to growth and you wouldn't need to get another for probably 20-25 more VPSs.

I think I have replied to everyone on PM and MSN. If I didn't, please hit me up tonight as I should be online. I will be setting an end time for the auction soon. I also reserve the right to end the auction if I get an offer/buyer I feel comfortable with.
