PR3 with only 2 backlinks, how is this possible?

    Hi everyone,

I know PR doesn't mean a thing, but one of my competitors has a PR3 when I do a research on the backlinks I see the website only has 2 backlinks, also the domainname is less then 1 year old. And the 2 backlinks are from 2 pages that have PR0.

I've been working very hard on my SEO and got PR4 which is nice, but it puzzles me how this website can get PR3 with so few backlinks.

That's true. Weird things happen when it comes to PR and the way it is calculated. I have seen many sites with few BL / no BL but showing more than PR2. We can safely leave it to google to explain...:D

Google can be unpredictable. How did you find the backlinks? If you used the link: command on Google it will only show a subset of the real number of links.

Lately I've seen brand new domains getting PR 2 and 3 on the first toolbar export. The PR goes to 0 on the next though.

I use a program called SEO Spy, it will search also other search engines to find backlinks. Nice piece of software.

Its strange, but as earlier said, we can't really understand how google PR algo. works... And i think Google may never explain it.

It's not unheard of. I have a small personal site that is built on a very specific theme. It has no adwords, no external advertising, and has, what I would consider high quality content. For the last 18 months, Google shows a single back link from a PR 1 page, yet the homepage of my site has a PR2 and has been as high as PR3. Go figure.

So waht you're saying is that the whole traditional idea that you need so many backlinks from a high PR site is bull, and people that are still buying PR are wasting their money? I'm not a PR fan and don't buy links so I don't mind either way.

If you checked it out this week, the PR you pulled could be skewed. I believe Google is dancing, I got an inner page of a PR 2 site listed as a PR5 for about 48 hours. It had 4 links, all PR0.

Then it went back to being a PR1. It was "real PR" while it lasted.

PR3 is what many older web sites are granted. Its a good start, but higher ranks are hard to get. Its encouraging that you have moved on from PR3 to PR4.

Have you ever thought that some links might be originating from high PR web pages that are NOT INDEXED but FOLLOWED? :p

It is simple, you could get PR9 if you got one Google homepage backlink.

May be those two links were very strong. Or maybe that there were other links as well but google search did not show them. Try to query in yahoo and see all the backlinks.

well i can show you a way to get a pr 7 instantly. i wont touch it but everyone says it works.

    1. make subdomain called hyves.youdomain.com

    2. check your PR from any pr check

    3. guaranteed 7 pr from google lolz
    it works.
