I Am Sick of Small Potatoes - Any Ideas?

Discussion in 'General Business' started by LeetPCUser, Mar 25, 2009.

I am sick of working day to day on small projects scrapping together for minimal reward and money. Does anyone have any ideas of sites that can be started with minimal investment that can eventually generate a return with hard work?

I am unemployed and in two months I will be graduating from college, engaged, moving with no money. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

    Thanks.

You can start blogs, static websites and even forums very easily now a days. Initally you can use google adsense to earn from your sites. It is very easy to start websites now a days, but very difficult to promote due to competition.
But, you can earn enough from sites with hard work.

My situation is similar like you, but I know much. If you want more information then pm me with your Yahoo ID. I will add you in my messenger and give you information on how to start. I am also going to start new sites (May be one or two) now a days and may be we can help each other.

    Thanks

If you are really willing to put hard work into it try affiliate programs.

Always go for an affiliate that will provide direct sales from your domain. This way in the case they go down you still own the traffic and you'll be able to redirect it to another similar product. If you send all the traffic their site to sell you'll have absolutely no control and they can easily steal from you.

Try to find find affiliate products that has lots of traffic, forget about adsense and PPC, I only know of about 10 sites that make real money out of adsense, the rest work like crazy all day long for a couple of thousands a month.

If you don't have money to invest affiliate marketing is the best option, just make sure to pick a reliable service and understand that it will take months before you start making a profit out of it.

Considering your situation I would look for a job and work on your websites on your free time, in a year if you do it properly and seriously you can start making a good income.

Making money online is complicated, it needs consistent hard work. Do NOT believe the stories that you can make thousands of dollars all of the sudden using a "secret" system they are all BS.

If you'd like some tips PM me and I'll be more than happy to guide you.

Nice, I'm glad your sense of humor is working.

My advice is perfect for only some people:

You need the imagination to try creative, useful ideas which are truly original; Don't follow the crowd.
You also need the courage to be different, even when some people think you are crazy.

Also, remember to have fun. :)

    agree!
you can make money only through creative ideas as well as hard work.
    remember what Albert Einstein said:
    Genius = 99%perspiration + 1% inspiration

    wish you good luck!;)

My problem is I am a programmer. That equates to being the least creative person in the world, lol. Thanks everyone for your help.

Why would you say that? I really admire the amount of knowledge and skills programmers have. In what do you specialize? We could put you to work on some ideas we have.

Three quickest ways to make money using tht internet without having 100 small projects:

    1) You and your fiance start a webcam porn site (still work every day, but at least then work is sex)
    2) Create a single must have application that you sell over the web (are you developing the next iTunes?)
    3) Use Google maps to locate the nearest banks for a quick hold up (high risk, probably no reward these days - do banks even have money these days?)

Other than that, plan for years of mind-numbing laborious work for the next few decades.

Why don't you start selling at ebay?
You do not need to have a lot of $$ to keep the stock.
Join some reliable dropshipper and then sell their item at ebay.
    Earn from the price different.
Its easy and involve less work.

Well, there are only so many options for those that do not want to put in the long hard work of building up small projects to eventually get larger returns.

For making big money you usually need to invest. There is a huge difference between a company started from scratch with nothing but talent (sometimes) and a company that had 100-200k$ to burn + that talent. Companies that are started looking professional, with a good idea and a good implementation of that idea and, ofcourse, the marketing to back it up usually do a lot better than smallpotatoes companies.

Almost everything can be made into a company that makes at least like 10-15k month profit and it can be done fast, but without funds it is very very difficult (for most that is).

Agreed. Many people want the fruits without the roots. It takes hard work to be successful.

It really depends on your abilities. You mentioned you are a programmer. Web or application programmer? What language(s)? A little more information would be good for those willing to throw out some actual suggestions to help out.

That isn't always true. The key is finding a niche, and it doesn't matter if you have backers or not. Without a group that cares about your site it's garbage anyway.

You need to find a group, build a site that fits for them, and then hit that group hard. And eventually you'll have a profitable business!

becareful - this thread could dangerously be close to becoming an open call for marketers pushing their get rich quick schemes.

What you need to do know is that only unique ideas remain profitable. There's too much jumping on the bandwagon going on ..the markets you enter are probably oversaturated and your sites are probably just another drop in the ocean. try coming up with some creative sites or ideas and you're sure to be one step closer to making large sums of cash.

Those who are creative and inventive and unique make the big cash, those that copy or do clones are only left with what's left.

Identifying your niche and targeting your keywords is important. However the biggest factor that impacts your success is the dedication that your put into it. Just chip away at one site every day and eventually will see the success you want.
