I have a site and the designer that made my site has a link at the bottom of every page..

If i remove it, would it be beneficial for my SERPS?

I think that's a bit of "overkill"! There's no way that the designer is entitled to a backlink to his site from every page, if that's what you mean.

I would limit the link to him to only a few pages at most (I personally wouldn't give him/her any), and make them "nofollow" outbound links.

Do you mean the links are site-wide? It's okay to put outbound links especially if you're linking the authority sites.

Yea, I agree. Designers are notorious for this. They typically add a site-wide footer link on your site to their home page with whatever keyword phrase they want to rank for.

I would give them at most a single link from my home page; but probably none at all, especially if you paid the designer to design the site (unless it was in the contract that he somehow reduced the price in exchange for such a link or links).

ahh okay thanks guy, i might remove it, i was just wondering though, would it have any effect on serps?

i.e. will i magically go up by removing the outbound links, they are on the footer of every page so i guess there is 300 of them

It's doubtful it would make much difference.

There is no benefit to have the links on your page. Ask your self the following "Am I getting paid for the Ad?"

Unless you are in a "joint maketing" relationship with another site, then there is no reason to have the link. But if you still think you do, then add the "nofollow" attribute to all outbound links.

And if the designer has a link on everypage, remove it. This is considered "chicken shi@" since it will harm your site's PR.

OP... just curious... did the designer ask you or at least inform you that they were incorporating their links into the site or did they just do it?
