Google Custom Search Engine destroys traffic?

Discussion in 'Google' started by invisible121, Mar 22, 2009.

I added a Google Custom Search Engine (Google CSE) on my site the other day, then after 24 hours, my traffic was cut into half. I was thinking that since the results are hosted on google, it will lessen some of the traffic. I removed the Google CSE immediately and removed my site from the Google CSE dashboard too. Suddenly when I search for some particular keywords on google.com, I don't find my site anymore on the first page of google's results, unlike before, if i search something that I have, my site is always on the first page. It's been a week and my daily traffic is decreased by half. I think Google CSE did something with my ranking on Google. Do you think resubmitting my site to google will solve the problem? Thanks

Simple, i'm getting 40K+ unique hits daily, I installed Google Custom Search Engine on my site then after 24 hours my unique hits was dropped to like 15K daily, I removed CSE but still traffic is very low. When I check google, my pages are still indexed but they never show on first page anymore, even on the 2nd - 10th page...

It is likely that it is due to other reason. (I am not expect thought :) )

Ive never heard of Google CSE doing that. My guess is something else is wrong. Are you still indexed?

It is coincidence. CSE will have nothing to do with your rankings.
Moreover if you let CSE only search your site, then, the page views also increase.
People who search will either visit another page or exit via a sponsored link.

BUT it will not affect serp.

    Maybe penalized.
PM the URL and let me see if I can see any anomalies.

I PMd you the URL. My site is still indexed on google, I just resubmitted a sitemap few hours ago. Co-incidence huh? I'm not supposed to add the Google CSE but we are receiving too much page errors. The server is always overloaded, I was thinking that many people are using the built-in search engine and I had to try something else like the CSE. I'm just the one in charged on doing some wordpress updates and the one fixing things if something went wrong. I'm not good at this SEO stuff. hope you could check it out guys.. its really weird.. Our alexa ranking dropped too.. Thanks guys..

I added a Google custom search engine, and it had no downward effect on traffic. In fact, traffic has gone up since then, but I can't necessarily conclude it was because of the Google CSE.

Yup that's what I read on reviews about Google CSE, it helps boost the traffic. I just wonder what went wrong, do you think it could be the meta tags or something? or maybe sitemap?

Don't panic! Spring Break just started this weekend for many countries. There's always a drop in people using the net during breaks with travel, family time, etc.

It should not be through CSE, it has something different things behind it.

I would assume the CSE wouldn't have a negative effect being offered by Google.

Google custom search is a great feature, it will literally cut down your server load to half if you have a lot of load just because of the searches people perform on your website. I believe it has nothing to do with the traffic google has been sending you. Maybe you were penalized for something else ? or google is simply re indexing your site ... it happens sometimes, but if thats the case then you'll be back up in a week or so. Let me know how it goes.

Google CSE is not the cause. Traffic just dropped. It happens all the time. Just keep going on.

It's not CSE, it's likely something else. Sounds like an unrelated event...

Spring break has started, so if sales are an issue, they will be for the next week or so.
