A sweet new tool just came out to do that called NicheQ. If you haven't seen it yet you might want to check out a review on it here.
See... if you are thinking of making money by CPA offers - then selecting niche should be on commercial basis because you have to market what people are looking for - but if you are thinking of making a blog or writing something - then you should fairly go with your likes - which niche you are best at... hope it helps...
thanks for all the great answers!!! It looks like both ways can be successful. thanks again for sharing your views!
I selected my niches for these reasons: 1. I knew about the niche 2. I wanted to learn more 3. It was profitable
Wow, there is a lot of great advice in this thread....so I will keep my 2 cents to a minimum. Personally, I have found.....and I noticed that several others mentioned this as well.....that developing a site within a niche that you are passionate about can actually be a bad thing. You tend to get to attached because it is a hobby or something you are emotional about. That being said, you do need to have a good understanding of your customer base so you do need to do your research. Generally if a niche site doesn't start to show some life or some sort of profit within 30 to 40 days of going live then I flip it and at least get my money back....usually a bit more.
I fell into my niche. I was failing and made a free site and domain as a desperate effort and made a couple sales. Once that happened I was hooked.
I like to look at what's popular or trending today. Of course writing about your likes and what your passionate about is great advice.
Hey there. If you want to do business. u need to do some research in the internet. Check out the needs. U need to know the market. Some people are not doing that and that is why 95% failed..
What I did was to concentrate my long tailed URL's to reflect as many likely search terms as I thought I was likely to receive, and then let the cache take over.
A great resource is Amazon.com. Have a look in the magazine subscription section. Here you'll find the magazines that have the most subscribers, which means people are religiously paying for info in that market every month. I've used this process may times when I want to go into another niche.
Any blog I create is on things I like doing, that is why i can write about my experiences and things I have learned, which gives me great content that is straight to the point. See the link in my sig for example.
i will go to http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/ and type my keyword and select a keyword from the result and search in google. if it has less competition then i will choose that keyword.
