Google treats .info .com differently?

Discussion in 'Google' started by Fluxos, Mar 14, 2009.

Does Google treats .info .com differently? I know a lot of people are going to say it is no difference. But i heard a lot of scams going on with this .info.

How about you then? Would you prefer a .info or .com? I'm thinking about registering a new domain and the avail choices are:

    keywordS1-keyword2.com (notice the S)
    or
    keyword1-keyword2.info

Which would you choose? Yes, this website is for information.

No, Google treat all .TLD the same no matter if it's a .COM one or simply .BLABLA one.. doesn't matter at all.

    *TLD = Top Level Domains

I would prefer a premium .info then a crappy .com many will disagree. But if your getting a brandable domain then .com is the only choice you should make. Google treats every extension the same.

If you are buying or building a domain to resell, you probably want .com. But yes, G treats an info the same as a com in terms of SERP positioning and preference.

I prefer .com domains, .info names look a bit cheap.

I agree, most info sites just seem very unprofessional. If its a purely informational site, its a good idea, but anything unique that you want to brand should be a .com. google doesnt care either way though.

I have seen many top SERPs are showing .info sites too.

    sometimes .info domains are cheaper

I'd pick .com because that's what most people are familiar with.

i bet that statement should read

"But I seriously think .com fares better than .info !"

    LOL

I prefer a dot com over a dot info personally - I have sites that are in the same niche with both a .com and a .info - and the .com does 10x better as far as traffic from Google and Yahoo - don't know why though.....

technically the treat all TLD the same,
but it would not surprise me if they have extra filters in place to check for spam on .info
Of course if you don't have a spammy site it wont make a difference ;)

Nope.. Search engines treat all domains as same... People prefer .com as it is more brandable and most people know it.

You are thinking too much like a webmaster. Visitors wouldn't know that .info is cheaper to register. And besides, once the find you in the search results and bookmark you, it doesn't make a difference!
