Is offering social bookmark services prohibited?

Discussion in 'Services' started by johndoes, Mar 9, 2009.

    Hello,

I read both of the stickies but I couldn't get clearly. Can't we post our social bookmarking services or should it be offered alone (not mixed with other types of services).

And if it's prohibited, can anyone tell me the reason? I'm not criticising, I just wonder. What's the difference between bulk directory submissions and social bookmarking that one is allowed but the other is not?

    Any help greatly appreciated,

    Regards,

I will try to offer an explanation.

Bulk directory submission is not against Google recommended link building practises, nor is it against the individual web directories' TOS.

As for social bookmarking, you are supposed to vote and submit media that is newsworthy or something worth sharing. It is against the TOS to receive payment for social bookmarking and it is also not ethical. However, I don't think Google cares at all if you are not caught by the individual social bookmarking sites.

Well, if you ask me, trying to add your sites to directories / article sites that are specifically created for mass submissions is not ethical either. Paying for such a service is worse for sure.

And also there's a "link sales" forum on DP which is clearly and totally against Google's terms.

Looking at the whole picture, it looks like ethics is not the only reason.

    thanks for your explanation though.

johndoes, I have to agree with the whole idea of selling directory submissions article distro and other link building packages offered is unethical, hence the theory of social bookmarking being unethical can be thrown out. They are both clearly unethical... but I am merely voicing my opinion... I still use a few services offered on the forum!
