I know that i will get penalized in search engines for having the same content as another site. But would i get penalized for having a 2 pages on my site with the same content? Because I have my actual blog post and an exact replica in my forums section. And also does doing that help my site in search engines?

thanks in advance for the help =D

    the answer is...

you're unlikely to actually get PENALIZED for it, it just won't help.

If you do too much of it, it will actually be detrimental.

Make a few changes to it, make it unique, the problem goes away.

Now you can put same content on more than 1 page on your website, however, you have to specify the preferred version of URL for search engines.
    For more info..check http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2009/02/specify-your-canonical.html

Hey that does not work in reality.
I got my sites penalized for having the same content. Also both sites had only some topics which had same content. Then also my sites went from 1st page in SERP to 10 pages above.

So you should take of the site's content. The best thing is not to have same content on any pages of the site or neither any other site.

You don't ever want to put duplicate content on your OWN site. You will get penelized for that. You will not get penilized if you have duplicate content on other sites. Just make sure you don't link back to the same page with the that the content duplicates.

If you got penelized for duplicate content on other sites, then all the people who have had their articles publised on other people's blogs and article directories such get google slapped. If that was the case it would be so easy to get your competitor's penelized by just copying content from their site and putting it up on another place. Google knows this and wouldn' allow that to happen to someone since it would be totaly out of their control.

There is no real penalty for duplicate content. One copy will get flagged as the original and the others will be flagged as duplicate. The duplicate pages will have their content devalued, but still can outrank the original copy if, for instance, they get way more inbound links than the original.

The content on your page only accounts for a few of the ranking factors at Google. There are over 200 ranking factors in Google's algorithm, many of which depend on off-page factors like inbound links from other sites, the link text used to link to your page, your domain's trust... your domains age... etc. Inbound links and inbound link text carry WAY more wait than the content of the page, at least in Google's algorithm.

Of course, it's preferable to have ALL original content. If you insist on having 2 copies of the same content on your site then pick one to be the preferred or canonical copy. Then make sure that both copies use the <link rel="canonical" href="URLofTheCanonicalCopy"> element in the <head>. This will make sure that one of the copies gets credit for all inbound links from both... similar to a 301 redirect, but without the redirection. This works for Google, Yahoo, and MSN. Hopefully the other engines will all support it over time.

Your site won't get penalized for having a duplicate content. It just won't rank. Content is king in SEO, so it's better to rewrite your article before you publish it.

My opinion for you is to always create fresh content for your site. And maybe, you can do some duplicate on other sites like article directories by submitting one article to as many as you can.

There are plenty of things to worry about. Spend your time on something other than duplicate content and trying to avoid or fix it.

Having several pages on a site with essentially the same information is not a good idea

It is better to use canonical url rel in the prefered url. Or if you feel it need not be indexed use roblts to do that. But just having a single identical page will not affect your reputation. Having more pages will do.
