I'd be curious to hear his rationale, too...If it's just based on that Google says it will be good for us, I'm going to remain reserving judgement LOL May get more clicks (but the jury is out on that) but you can't eat clicks, ie, it's the earnings that really count.

There are a lot of problems to be solved FIRST with adsense and that is the way to improve things.

For example the very poor and inconsistent "design" of the ads. Also the very poor choice for some displayed ads, from advertisers that should have been declined.

    And other things.

What (personal) information can a webmaster collect via an adsense block on their website?

All of the data doesn't pass through, isn't pushed or read by the website.

If this was truly 'the law' than a privacy policy link would have to exist within the adsense adblock(s) themselves.

    - Which is 100% more appropriate i might add. (vs pushing this on webmasters)

    - I'm not likely to do anything.

I think the reason being is that google has lost some of the small claim courts this year due to the fact that they banned and closed the accounts for invalid activities.

It is really the dream of every adsense publishers to get a better revenue through the new interest based advertising program announced by the google, given one or two cents we are getting from every click...
But we have to wait and watch how things will move in future.

It is NOT a good idea if you have a high paying niche.

Yesterday I had 13 clicks and made 11$

Today with this feature enabled I got 22 clicks and made 7$

This feature totally sucks, especially if you have a high paying niche.

I honestly do not think this is fair. Publishers have niche websites for a reason, so that they may serve ads realted to that niche, and for people visiting that niche site, they are there to learn about it, so why would you show ads unrelated to that niche?

I think this is pretty stupid.

They haven't really rolled out the feature yet...and it will only affect certain users and certain advertisers over the next few months as per the adsense blog post today so I highly doubt it has affected your site at all...just one of those days.

It is very early to do that. We practically know nothing about it yet.

I guess it will take a few months ....

IF we understand it correctly, yes it is pretty stupid from Google.

I have 3 websites, in different niches. Two of them have an average of .10c per click and maybe they will benefit from that change. The third has an average of 1$ per click and it is very-very narrowed in a niche, and my guess is that it will suffer.

But we will have to wait and see. Other alternatives also may open, from serious players, like Microsoft or Yahoo.

I think it will be fun to see Hannah Montana pajamas advertised in mesothelioma blogs, or family planning merchendise in religious websites.

It means ad relevancy (and revenue) on many sites will go down because the ads will not be necessarily relevant to your content, but more to the browsing habits of your visitors. For example, if your visitor primarily visits car-related sites, and your site is about health foods, your Adsense ads will be more about cars, not health foods. This will all happen gradually over time as data is collected on visitors. It might take as much as a year to fully take effect. It'll happen so slowly that we might not notice unless we compare month-to-month results.
