I wonder how many Wordpress installations are fine for a standard shared cPanel web hosting account? I mean if my Wordpress blogs/websites don't start to crash when I will run like 8 Wordpress blogs on my Bluehost 6.95/mo hosting account? Right now I have 5 WP blogs on my BH account.
That's a question you should be asking your host, there is no way for us to know what limitations you have on your account. On my account i can run as many as I want, and have 15 running right now, but that won't do you any good, I don't know what kind of account you have.
You can have as much as wordpress blogs as u can. Wordpress databases won't take much cpu or resources.
I have many WP, phplinkdirectories, joomla, and static sites running on my shared plans with no issues. It depends on how many people are access all of your sites per month and at one time which impacts your CPU and resources usage. If you run into any issues consider trying to optimize your sites by enabling cache options and getting rid of unnecessary plugins/addons.
hey andrej... there is no technical limit to how many you can run despite whether you cpanel or not.. you only need ONE database and change the prefix in the config file from wp_ to wp1_ or to wp2_ .etc.... next question is will you be penalised by google by having more than 2.. i have not seen any penalty as yet for having multiple blogs, as well i have not seen any degrade in processor speed the only real criteria is to ensure your ping list is accurate and that you do not ping a SE too much or your IP will be blocked
The limit is only on your sql database. If your hosting allows unlimited sql database, than it's unlimited. Some hosting only allows around 5 to 10 sql database.
I thought we can have only 1 domain per hosting account. I've used hostgator hosting for 3 months but was not able to understand how to add more websites/domins to $10 plan
Some hosting companies limit the number of addon domains that can be added in a single account. But most of the companies allow about 5 or more addon domains in every account.
Most shared hosting worth its salt will run hundreds from a single account. However, if many of them start generating non-trivial traffic then you may exhaust the available connections on the server and be asked to upgrade, this is unlikely though. The CPU overhead should not be an issue and you can use wp-cache to minimise mysql activity. If your host oversells their boxes then expect it to be an issue, otherwise not.
It would be down to the resource demand of your blogs, if their all very busy blogs, then you would maybe need to go for VPS, if they are not getting massive traffic and not sucking CPU power then you could have plenty more im guessing.
As many as you can have sql bases. But it's related to you traffic. Sooner or later you might see CPU limit reached.
Like several of the others are saying, it's really just a matter of how much of your server resources are being used. Traffic, database usage all contribute. If low-traffic blogs, no worries. Higher traffic blogs could start to increase that. Cache plugins like WP Cache and WP Super Cache can go a long way to reducing CPU/mem usage.
My worry is about bandwidth... since the wp's db doesn't require much.. right now I have four blogs in 1 host.
I am now using BH service, and i have more than 30 domain that hosted in BH, all off this domain has beed installed with WP, and also i have 2-3 time been suspendeed because of CPU limit ( i am forget detil ) but i still stand with BH because dont have time to removing the blog. when i got suspendeed, i asking to live support about the problem, and imagetly fix the problem and asking them to check ! ------------------------------------------------ --> Domain Name Business --> Make Money Frog Blogs
This depends on how many visitors your wordpress sites are making and your host. Generally 3000+ visitors are enough for hosts to suspend your account.
