I Need SEO plug-in installed which:

    - properly set page titles, currently our sites are all starting with the site name, which is poor for keyword targeting
    - allows to manually adjusts the title and meta description for the homepage
    - automatically extracts content to be used for the meta description tag
    - allows to control the meta keyword tag

What JOOMLA Plug in can you suggest?

    Thanks

I think Joomla has most of those options built in. I'm not using an SEO plugins on the Booze Blog and I'm able to manage most of those things. If you go to the Global Configuration's page, there is a section related to SEO. You can set the meta title and description of the homepage there, along with having SEO friendly URL's.

Google will automatically extract content if no meta description is used, so no plugin necessary there.

So the only thing you need is a plugin that lets you set the page titles of your deeper pages. That feature might actually exist in Joomla, I'm still learning it, but if someone else knows for sure, please chime in.

I dug this up from the grave, but if anyone's searching for a good SEO plugin for Joomla, SH404SEF is the best component I've found. There's also iJoomla SEO, JoomSEF and SEF Advance. I don't know much about those, but SH404 is the most widely used by a long shot. It can handle all your redirects, URL creation, meta data, and more. It used to be free, but the developer was going to drop the project, so Anything Digital picked it up and now you have to subscribe to it for $35/year.

If you do a Google search, you can probably find an older copy for free, but for $35, it's well worth paying to get the most recent version, plus you'll help ensure that this component keeps getting developed. FYI, hope this helps somebody.
