How many links in a press release is too much?

I would love to add two in the body section of a new press release. Is this to much, or even allowed with most press release sites? I'm new to press releases, and I'm looking into creating my first.

I'm no pro but I would think 2-3 would work well. It would be the same as articles... Correct?

Press releases (at least the ones I'm familiar with) don't allow you to add links into the body of a release. They have a resource box at the end of the article that contains your contact information and a link to your website.

It may be different with online press releases though. I know normal press releases are designed to be sent to the press, so there's no reason to have links in the body of the release.

Have 1 - to make sure people know where to go.
Maybe 2 is okay, but I think one main link should be the goal.

(<= comes from a guy whose been distributing tons of online press releases)

I'd say a maximum of 3 for best results.

Anything more than 2-4 is pushing it in my opinion,it becomes more advertising and spammy looking

Any secondary (or beyond) link to the same site basically will not count for anything.

Thanks for the tips. The few press release sites I have been looking at now don't even allow html in the body, so this is probably not even a factor.

I think 2 is good. One in the body and in the resource box. Any more and it looks cheesey and spammy.

Depends on your business model and news worthiness on specific subject.

    Two are perfectly fine.

They key though is making sure the destination URLs are highly targeted to the type of media / bloggers you're most interested in appealing to. Remember that, while your end audience can access press releases themselves online most don't (and of those who do, many still trust news coming from 3rd party sources over the horse's mouth any day). What those journalists and bloggers want (and need) are links to pages where they can genuinely find more relevant information about the news in the release (for example, if you're writing a release about a product launch, the primary URL targeted should be to the product page where they can find specs and such). The homepage URL should also always be included (at least in the call to action - written out - and I like including it also written out in the summary for online distribution to attract visitors even if they never click onto the body of the release itself).

My press releases don't have less than five links.

Depends on the service you use too.

Some pr sites allow body text links, the majority don't, it depends where you are thinking of submitting the pr to, the services section of this forum has plenty of offers for pr submissions? check out reviews first though.

So the same information posted on a bunch of free sites actually has value with Google???

No need to respond if your keywords are similar to

flying carpets for sale in peoria

    last train to matalan

    blue widgets with green tint.....

I am looking for information for two word, high competition terms something along the lines of -

    online casino,

    kids toys,

    womens clothes etc....

I just cannot imagine Google would find value in duplicate content posted 100s of times....but I can be wrong.....

    Thank you in adcance...

    :)

Posting to a bunch of free sites is a complete waste of time. ROI beyond the first 1 - 3 doesn't improve much, if at all - just gets picked up by more splogs and more irrelevant PR sites. Paid and targeted distribution is the better option. The best option is to manually target highly relevant outlets and only use a distribution site as a sort of "backup" (to hit bloggers and smaller sites you wouldn't target manually).

If you absolutely must use distribution sites as the primary distribution model, you're far better off going with paid options - PRWeb, Webwire, EmailWire, etc. for more online focus and BusinessWire, PRnewswire, Marketwire, MassMediaDistribution.com, or similar sites if you also want to hit print and broadcast media outlets.

One and two at the very most. Also, make sure that you don't put them in your first paragraph and ensure that the links are relevant to the context of the press release.

    Hope this helps

You should put in the maxium amount that the press release site allows. Most of them are like article directories which only allow 2-3. NOw, if you are adding links to other to different websites, then you should be able to add a maxium of 50. The reason why most article marketing sites do not allow more than 2 links is because google will ban their site for linking to the same website too many times in one page. Good luck :)
