That's possible, but very rare to happen. Several hours approval looks normal to me.

lol I took my approval in 30 mins! and I was impressed just like you :O ! because I know it usually takes days for catching an approval E-mail. but the question is: How your site looks like? (the site who u used to sign up for adsense) is it High quality website? I mean something not seems like blogs, forums, common scripts.?
if its unique design or High quality rich design then its normal :). because google loves this kind of websites. its showing that you are serious and treating your website as business! and of course they don't like poor websites because it mostly bringing stupid publishers into the program! :D that's it!

    I'm from Latvia

My site is in my signature ( the last one ) and it's up and running for only 1 week now. Another proof that you don't need to own a six months old site to get approved ( there was a thread about this ).

My friend is trying to get an account since 1 month. He is from INDIA

They keep declaining the application for some rubbish reasons.

    - Postal address incorrect or not provided
    Further detail:

Postal address incorrect or not provided: We've found that the account information provided on your application is incomplete or incorrect. All applications must include a valid and complete address where you can receive mail. It is important that this information is entered correctly since payments will be issued to the payee name and checks will be mailed to the address as listed on your application. For more details on entering your address, please visit https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=47333.

    second time :

    - Domain ownership not evident

    Further detail:

Domain ownership: To complete our review, we need to confirm your
    ownership of URL

    Please follow the steps below:

    1. Access the source code of the website you have submitted.
    2. Create a separate page on the site and paste 'This post confirms the
ownership of the site and that the site adheres to AdSense policies and
    Terms and Conditions'.
    3. Fill out this form
    (https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/request.py?contact=domain_ownership)
with your name, the email address you applied with, and the URL where you
    pasted the email.

Even after doing all these they again say address is incorrect ??

who else does know the proper address then the person living there ??

Is this they are avoiding few countries ??

About the 6 month wait, soon as you open a blogger account you are asked if you ant to mionetise with adsense, or was it only long time back?
