I own a new VB forum which completed its first 3 months.

As a forum owner it is really time-consuming job to keep the forum free from spammers and numerous members just joining to leave back links.

My concerns are as many forum owner understand the overwhelming pain of having to keep a forum clean of spam and on topic

I am looking for help and suggestions ... step-by-step direction and settings I can do

I have tried to but can not get this to run AUTO ...
Create promotion script based off post count. This moves the person from the registered users group to the second group. My promotions script cron job

    SUMMARY.
I would like to setup the forum to run automatic so member can use the forum ... and some auto process that will ban all the Viagra and shit it banned automatically

please offer suggestion and advice .... what can I do ????

I don't know about vB, but I'm sure they have similar things like IPB. reCAPTCHA, question and answer custom profile field, email banning, and blocking posts with links from users of a usergroup.

I was hoping others could tell me what processes they are doing to prevent and or reduce the spammers. Maybe automatic processes or how to setup "Core" processes?

What is the engine that runs your forum?
you can add rel="nofollow" automatically to any link posted in your forum, unless for users with 100+ posts and reputation.
Once you introduce that, make sure that the spammers read it before they post, and I think this will solve your problem.

Here's what I do to prevent bots from spamming:
I use the native reCaptcha Human Verification method in vBulletin. I also have installed the modification, "NoSpam!" from vbulletin.org.
This is essentially using two Human Verification methods, since vBulletin only allows you to use one at a time.
It has worked very well in terms of stopping bots from registering.

To prevent spam from appearing on my board, I have set up a promotion where the first two posts of a new member must be approved by a moderator. This way, I don't have to keep my eye out for spam, and users don't have to see it or report it.
I have a notice displayed to new members informing them of my 2-post-moderation procedure, so I'm sure that will turn away some human spammers (they know they can't get past it).

REcaptcha, required questions, and disabling links for members with less than 3 posts works great for me.

I prefer to ask a required but hidden profile question such as "Why do you want to be a member of X forum?" over the human verification "What is 2+2?" sorts of questions.
