301 Redirect : Will google penalize?

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by seoindia, Mar 10, 2009.

I have a new website which is infact just launched. I purchased a old expired domain as well which has thousands of backlinks. The domain was somewhat related to my field not directly.

My question is if i make 301 redirect of old domain to my new web, will it be something that allow penalization from google. I don;'t care if google don't transfer backlinks of old domain to new domain, it just that whatever traffic is arriving from backlinks of old domains arrives to my web. Will it be somewhat ethical and can be done?

It will good to hear suggestion from members. I don't wan't to risk new website for the sake of utilizing old domain which i buyed.

I would use the 301 to obtain the backlinks. Google does not penalize anyone for this.

This will work well for short term results but google will see the new nameserver and site content and your backlinks will be worthless.

How will google know that you purchased that domain for getting backlinks only. For google it is normal 301 redirect and which is not penalized.

Google has published that the best and only accepted way to redirect is with a 301 redirect. This can be accomplished many ways and depends on your architecture (Windows, Linux, PHP, ASP, ASP.NET, etc.), but all are capable of a 301 redirect.
