Remote backup

Discussion in 'Site & Server Administration' started by jallikatu, Mar 7, 2009.

I would like to take full backup of my site, but the problem is my current internet speed is really low and it is taking an eternity for downloading backup.
Is there a way by which i can send my backup to a remote server without downloading.

    Thanks.

Sure, depends on what control panel you're using.
In cPanel you can copy it to a remote FTP right through the backup manager.

Cpanel backup configuration, the ftp setup are there.

I do make some full cpanel backup on another hd, then rsync them offsite everynight.

You can take the remote backup from the backup option of the cpanel. You just need to provide the ftp information of the remote server before at the time of placing the backup request. Once the backup has been completed, it will be uploaded to the ftp.

Hi i have no idea how to do this. (Though i can see the location where i should provide the ftp information). Can i use free backup providers (like drivehq.com) for this purpose.
If yes please show me the way.

you are almost there. You can use any host, and if its a free one with ftp access it should work. Some dedicated backup server for as low as 5$ a month for 10-15gb should be best.

find the login info and enter them where you see the location.
