Subdomain pages work great in Google if you need to break up your site a little. You would want to treat them like separate mini sites in terms of creating and maintaining content.

Think of your visitors first before you consider the search engines. If I am the visitor I want to see what the site is offering for the specific product that Im looking for. IMHO

Yes, but that can be accomplished with both a subdomain and a landing page.

As far as indexing goes, proper navigation and structure will allow both options to be indexed properly.

Currently , Google considers subdomains as if they are a separate site. You will need to promote each subdomain, build links etc., just as if it is a separate site. This will be the case for each one you create.

A landing page (folder) within a site will benefit from nav links within the site itself, often ranking it highly based just on those depending upon the competitiveness of the keywords especially when they're sitewide nav links. Unlike subdomains, getting directory links can be tough since they'd be deep links.
