There are many domain registrars and godaddy is the most popular and the cheapest (if you use the coupons)
Hosting: godaddy is good if you take advantage of their specials and offers. But there are cheaper ones ouut there

I get my domains from NameCheap.com

As for web hosting, the best is HostGator.com

I use godaddy and namecheap. Satisfied with both.

Godaddy always has some offers, just hate their interface.

I like namecheap for domain registrations and lunarpages, hostgator, and hostmonster for hosting.

Go for $8.50 domain name (.com/.net/.org) and webhosting for $1 per month. I will tell you both.
