Coming Up With the Best Domain Name for Your Business

I thought I would start a thread to see how everyone comes up with the best domain names for their business.

Do you choose names that describe what your business or website is? Or you you come up with a unique brand name?

Are there any tools you use to generate ideas when your mind goes blank? And do you have trouble coming up with a domain name that is still suitable in years to come?

Also, how relevant is it to have a .co.uk domain name if your business is based in the UK, over having a .com?

Answers to one or all of these questions would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

I specialise in vertical markets so my names are specific to the product or services I offer. The UK is a big market so I would buy .co.uk if I plan to serve that market, but my first preference is .com.

I threw ideas into a pot and picked what came out with a random generator. Worked pretty well

Then I made a random generator site too. :D

For anyone else is who is having trouble coming up with names - google up a "three letter" & "four letter" word type list. Mash them together & see what you get!

I like to do niche content sites, so I tend to go with urls with keywords in them. They aren't as easy to remember sometime and generally longer, but that doesn't matter too much when you are trying to get traffic from search engines, which typically convert better with ad clicks.

I take into consideration what will impact my sites traffic and income more, both name and unique state of mind.

Bad part about .co.uk I myself in America wouldn't generally go to a co.uk website, it sort of limits its users to a .co.uk website and not the rest of the world, you should take into consideration other countries aswell.

.com's are more known worldwide rather than .co.uk

I definitely understand what you mean. Do you think it could ever have the opposite effect where UK customers might be put off?

    Thanks for all suggestions!

I would always go ahead with the brand name because its the brand name (google, yahoo, msn etc..) that people will remember and not the general name.

    And this is why I have Ruchie.com, RuchieDomains.com, RuchieDomains.in, RuchieDomainReseller.com, RuchieStoreCreator.com, RuchieWebHosting.com and so on...

You see Ruchie.com common in them because its my brand name. Making your brand name popular is always in the best interest for long terms.
