Google Confirms Algorithm "Change"

Discussion in 'Google' started by mit, Mar 6, 2009.

  1. #1
About a week and a half ago, there was the start of discussion around Google's brand push in the algorithm.

Some people started noticing that for some queries (mostly generic queries), more "big brands" were showing up in the search results.

Definitely seen the effects of this change...but Matt is insisting its not brand related - its just a trust thing

    Hello...

Well they rolled out this new option today (when searching for my keywords) or when i re-moved the old toolbar
and re-installed it as i was looking and something didnt look correct then i seen this...

Customized based on recent search activity. More details... thing is though that i wasnt even logged in
Nor did i ever remove anyone from my results (so i would know if im moving up the serps)

    More Details:

When possible, Google will customize your search results based on location and/or recent search activity.
Additionally, when you're signed in to your Google Account, you may see even more relevant, useful results based on your web history.

The following information was used to improve your search results for xxxxxx xxxxxx: (removed my keywords) Recent Searches

You or someone else recently searched for xxxxxxx (another keyword right after) using this browser. Learn more

If you're curious, you can see what a search for xxxxxx xxxxxx looks like without these improvements.

The 'More details' link on your search results page can be used to display this page for approximately 30 minutes,
after which it will no longer show this page.

    About this Video of Matts:

Now i just caught Matt contradicting what he said last year about the PR updates (when it took 6 months to update PR
and everyone was freaking out) and he said something along the lines off:

When we update the PR its just another day here at the office (Meaning: No big deal) yet he makes special mention now
in this video that ALL they care about is.... trust, authority, reputation, PR, high quality.. But Not "Brand"

lol things that make you go hmmmmmm :p

Found this post a few minutes ago

Well i suppose... page rank is ??? aha and "brands" will be...... to be continued

    see yaz

this isnt new its been going on for months, on and off.

he's talking about the "REAL" pagerank, not toolbar pagerank, which as we surely all know by now is fundamental to rankings??

Well i did mention that last night i removed my old google toolbar and re-installed it... maybe it has...
but i wasnt aware of what i seen till this morning when i checked... and yip i was surprised. :)

Even more surprised is that when i had to read the TOS that i had to click a special link that talked
about (Page rank meter) and about how they feel its all about Trust or whatever (didnt get into it to
much as i already know what it is but million of non webmasters wouldnt have known till now)

PS... the actual little green bar got shorter then before

Yes yes i know... it takes 3 months and the export blah blah but my point was that he had made
it sound like no big deal (where in fact it is today) and then you got another google guy saying dont sweat it.

    thx

How sad would it be if brands dominate the first page entirely. If so then it's the beginning of the end for Google.
