Yahoo has a sandbox. How long does it last?

Why does it take soooo long to rank on Yahoo? I had one site come out of their sandbox after 3 years and go to the top.

I know for sure that it applies to sites that have saturated content. If you have a site that is in a major industry like Casinos then you sit in their sandbox and they hope you pay the $299. After around 3 years they give up on you paying and then allow you into the regular SERPS.

I can prove that they have a sandbox. If you have a site that many other people have but take off the main index page and replace it with an inner page that they don't have alot of information on, it will instantly rank high. However if your index page is something that they have alot of information on they put you into the sandbox.

The only way around this is to make multiple sites that deal with the subject of your inner pages which is what I did. As soon as I did this Yahoo noticed that there was new information that they never had in their search engine and it instantly ranked high.

So..........my question is.....has anyone else had this happen to them??? How long did it take to get out if you had a site that was in a saturated market.

Yahoo doesn't have a sandbox similar to Google from my experience. You can usually rank after 4-5 months, but I stress the word "usually".

If your in the casino niche, forget about it, that's not sandboxed, it's just too darn competitive.

In your case, your inner pages contained the most unique content for your site, so those pages ranked high--which is the way it should be, IMO. I think if your index page contained highly unique content as well, the page wouldn't have been subject to any filters.

    IMO, Y! doesn't have a G-style sandbox.

I agree with dcristo about the time it takes to rank well if you do your SEO "white hat," and do it well. In fact, I would estimate 3-4 months on average.

Also, I know from experience that if you do things right, then you can rank better than sites in the Y! directory for your target keywords/keyphrases. Thankfully, Y! doesn't play those games.

    As always, IMO.

I have a site that was nowhere to be found until it was added to the Yahoo! directory. I wish it wasn't the case but that's the way it happened.

I've experienced the same thing, but I was added the same time as a big Yahoo update so I can't really make any large correlation.

Yahoo doesn't have a sandbox. It just takes time to get ranked. They like backlinks and seem to give a lot of weight to backlinks. Go out and get as many as you can and soon you will be ranked.

Not really a Sandbox but there is an aging delay of 3-5 months before you can rank well. Unlike Google, Yahoo doesn't seem to care about the quality of the links or even the relavence so pretty much links from anywhere will help you rank well. Word of caution though, if you want to rank well in Google, don't get the cheap links that will help you in Yahoo and MSN.

I've seen nothing that indicates Yahoo has a sandbox. It's not as easy to get ranked in as MSN for example, bit I've still ranked domains in the top 10 results within two reeks or registering the domain.

I have a site that was created on June 2 that is already completely indexed by Yahoo and shows up in the SERPs. I have been getting traffic from Yahoo for a couple of weeks. It seems to me that there is no sandbox.

Sounds about right. It is Yahoo's slowness filter.

Going back to the example of my site created on June 2 above, there are several keywords where that site is in position 2 on Yahoo. I see absolutely no evidence of slowness of a sandbox for this site on Yahoo. And I didn't even submit the site to Yahoo--they found it on their own from my other sites. With proper SEO, you can easily rank in days on Yahoo.

Congrats on the quick indexing, but keep in mind that "proper SEO" is highly subjective. I hate to break it to you, but SEO is as much luck sometimes as it is skill. Sure, knowledge and skill count for a lot, but luck sometimes counts for a lot more. If you are linked on a site that happens to be crawled that day and Yahoo decides you are interesting enough to crawl, then great. However, if Yahoo had already crawled that page, that same link might not have mattered again for a few weeks or a month and you'd be complaining that Yahoo has a "slowness filter".

The point is that sometimes you get lucky with a search engine crawling a page and sometimes you don't. Good SEO can help your odds, but search engines are constantly changing and you never know if your site will get indexed and start ranking quickly or if it will be weeks or months before your site really starts to rank. I'm sure in your case you must have done some "proper SEO", to get indexed so quickly, but it's just as likely that you got lucky and were linked on the right page at the right time.

I heard a few people mention quick indexing in Yahoo. I usually have to wait about 3 months to show up. Congrats to you getting ranked so fast. Can you share anything you might have done to get ranked quickly?

I can't get any traction in Yahoo at all - even though some of my highly competitive key phrases are starting to show fairly well in Google.

MSN is a given, although it seems they intorduced a new rev last month, in one day my top ten listings disappeared and they are starting to climb back.

I am building a 'myspace for travel and travel companions - www.edatetravel.com - so far pretty good membership and lots of usage. I am starting to get good linking back from PR 5 to 7 sites - still lots of work even though I bought a program to manage the link directory.

Anyone know what is up with Yahoo :( or what I am doing wrong with my site???
