I don't use any paid way to get my visitors. Nor adwords, nor any other PPC program I don't use banner / button exchanges I use link exchanges. No much traffic. I use directory submission. No much traffic I use blog commenting. No much traffic I use article submission. Good Traffic. I use forums posting. Good Traffic. I use social bookmarking. Good traffic BUT, here it is the catch : All those methods, if used together, you get a LOT of backlinks to your site. When you managed to do this.. you rise up in SERP. When you doo, here comes the search engine traffic. In my case, after I released the website 40 days ago.. I receive about 15-20 visitors just from Google and MSN. No yahoo SE visitors until now. Write 2 to 3 articles a day and post them to different articles directories as much as you can with link pointing back to you website. That's how I get most of my targeted traffic.
I think you should experiment for a while with all the different methods mentioned here. Posting some articles linking to your site in article directories will help, but simply being social in forums, on blogs and on services like Twitter can also bring in interested traffic - so long as you really are social and don't spam people.
I focus on two things: 1. Link Building 2. Social bookmarking (SU, Digg...) I still have to do: article marketing
Content-Type sites are quite easy to get traffic to. If you look at the links in my signature all I do is make some promotional posters, videos etc.. and post them on youtube and other places around the internet!
Blast out hundreds of quality articles that would sell your product! Get as many links pointing to your site.. Offer quality as much as possible..

With only a couple of thousand or so hits a day at his own site, if that many, Reese and his lame traffic secrets 2.0 would be the last one to listen to.
I got directories submission, usually I have 40-50-60 visitors. I did some SEO (now I have 0 referals from search engine..it was 3/day now 0). The directories or should I say robots took off and gave me like 800+a day. Which doesn't convert to anything. A total waste.

Just keep adding unique content that can only be found on your website. You'll have 1000's of visits in no time.
It depends on your budget but I would always use a combination of things to drive traffic to my sites - some paid (using Google Adwords, Yahoo, MIVA etc. but also other forms of marketing - email, mailshots etc.) and some non-paid (link building, general seo on your site, articles, bookmarking sites etc). Obviously we would all like to get free organic traffic (and lots of it) but you do need to look at some paid traffic options.
Backlinks will also help... Also ask the people you link your site with to add your link to thiers as well.
