I have a tough decision here. I own the .tv and .org extensions of a generic domain name for a site that is television show related. Which should I use? My thoughts: .tv = gets a bad rap. Some of the best domainers in the world (like Rick Latona) put it down a lot. It's technically a ccTLD but can have its location tracking removed with Google Webmaster (but I guess other search engines still see it as Tuvalu??) .org = also gets a bad rap...however, it's one of the original 3. What would you do? (please don't recommend buying a new domain name, as I want to use one of these, since they are short and exact keywords.)
If it's related to TV, I'd definately go for the .tv. It just suits it a lot better, and the vast majority of the public (ie, everyone who isn't a webmaster) wont really know about the bad reputation that some have given it. The org, however, isn't as brandable (in my opinion), and isn't really as "cool" as the .tv.
Thanks - I agree that the .TV would be better for branding reasons...my only fear is that it's going to be non-existent in SERPs. Wouldn't the .org have a better chance of getting listed higher?
To my knowledge, extension makes no difference to how domains rank in search engines. It's all about the keywords in the domain and then the content on the website.
I would prob go for the tv as .org is good for non profit websites but if you are selling something its best to leave alone the .org's
Um.....I'd go with .tv since it's a TV related site. .org doesn't make any sense for me for this name.
I would go with .tv which sounds better, fits your content better and is more marketable, especially as many more big players are starting to use .tv Don't worry about the SERPS, google knows as well as anyone that this is a general use ccTLD and will not restrict traffic to tuvalu, I get good SERPs on .tv .ws and .cc - it's content that matters. Be wary of what some big name domainers say, they are only in this game to make themselves money, if TV doesnt fit their specific niche they may talk bad about it but that doesnt make it a bad extension, many people love it.
I would go for the .tv TLD if it is a TV related site. I mean I don't think there is a better TLD for a TV related site then .tv. .org is seen more as non profit sites generally or sites that represent certain public groups etc..
I don't think search engines have any personal issues or conflicts with the TLD's or ccTLD's. As regards to your question, the answer is .TV domain.
