I have this practice of keeping open yahoo messenger all the time.

Suddenly, just yesterday I noticed that whenever I accessed my yahoo mail account, I got logged off from my messenger(since I am getting connected from another application!)

Lo...behold...There was a chat facility made available showing your contact list on the left bar in the yahoo mail account...just like Gmail!

    Time to throw away...Yahoo messenger?

    Regards,

The "Chat" feature has been available a while ago in Yahoo Mail. There is a tab for chatting.

Its been over 3-4 months since they added mail client chat messenger.
And yes of course they copied gmail's concept, because they launched it before yahoo did. now time for live messenger, gotta watch out, when they start this service.

This feature probably just got activated yesterday in Yahoo mail Classic, the older mail version which I still prefer and use.

Yeah, even I noticed it yesterday for the first time. I didn't like it in the first hand because it showed my status as available, and then I had to attend 3 of contacts who wasted a little bit of my time. I didn't have the option to ignore them because that would have been rude.

Now, I am aware of this gig, and controlling it.

Its Good but yahoo mail has very less space then gmail its difficult to read mail there because in the left site there is a chat window and right side advertisement are coming.

Yahoo recently added such chat feature within their mail application. We can consider such step of Yahoo as open competition with Google ;)

My work didn't allow me to load the yahoo IM client, but did allow me to check my yahoo mail. The yahoo email chat client is great, but I found that it frozen up through out the day and cause IE to crash and burn at least 5-8 times in a 8 hour period. It was mostly due to the advertisments loading when trying to type and/or sending a message. On the plus side my work didn't block it and I could stay in contact with my loved ones through out the day. They have the Yahoo IM Chat on their cell phones. :)
