Help wanted with wordpress site

I feel like a dumbo for writing this, but chalk it down to being a newbie wading through unknown territories with no help. Here goes:
I have set up a site for my computer class students and also friends and family to answer questions and find deals for them. I have a default wordpress theme installed. My hosting company is Hostgator. I have been trying to download another theme not on wordpress but from someone else made for wordpress, but cannot figure out how to add to my wordpress/themes folder. Do I need to use an ftp client to do so or just upload it directly from the administrative panel.
That is another question, I seem to lose my path on the cpanel to the admin part of the domain as it is a sub-domain of the main domain I am registered with.

I have to put in a form from Aweber on the site that just stays there on the side of the page. Whenever I ad a post it seems to go up or down or gets relegated to the forms page. My students are not that web savvy to be able to navigate without instructions.

I also have to put in a code for YouTube so I can upload videos on "how to series" over there and show it on the website.

Thank you for all the step by step help I can get.

use an ftp client like cuteftp.

to add a new theme, go to public_html>wp-content>themes. Add your theme folder. Go to wordpress and activate the theme.

hmm, u didn't put the aweber form in the sidebar but in the main post section rite? if so it will go down unless stickied! select visibility>edit in that post and enable sticky or you can use the WP-Sticky plugin to sticky/announce your posts to the top of the page

to add a youtube video, make a new post, go to visuals, click on kitchen show. then click on insert media. add the youtube flash video url. you can also change the dimensions and some other settings.

hope this solves your problem. :)

Thank you for your answer. One more explanation required

When I go to my cpanel where do i upload the files using cute ftp?

I seem to lose my path on the cpanel to the admin part of the domain as it is a sub-domain of the main domain I am registered with.

cuteftp pro is an individual software and CANNOT be used within the cpanel. It doesn't have anything to do with the cpanel. Its an ftp client used to upload files to your remote server. u can download cuteftp anywhere frm the net, just search cuz i think its free/trial.... if its not then i guess u gotta buy it.

i didn't understand your problem well but i will still try to give you a solution. go to your cpanel and find out your site ftp details. suppose if my site is example.com my ftp address would be ftp.example.com

then install and run cuteftp. Go to main toolbar File > New > Ftp Site

    Host Address : ftp.example.com
    Username : your cpanel username
    Pass : your cpanel pass

Click connect to connect to your ftp server. Now you can upload your files via the ftp client.

I recommend you donot upload through the cpanel file manager as your ftp client will be much easier and will support more features.

Thank you again for taking the time out to clarify things for me. I really do not know if this forum would let me, but could you review the site and point out the mistakes. It is bare bones right now. freemoneyfreestuff dot com.

hmm, if i were u i wud strip that default wordpress theme and modify/customise it to match my site.

also a logo "Free Money Free Stuff" and a kind of slogan. All are text right now, some addition of pictures might make the blog far more superior and gain more views.

check out my blogs to get some ideas on what im talking abt.

Loved your site with the blue wash effect. What software are you using to design your site?

I understand perfectly what you are saying. That is the whole thing. Do not know how to upload a theme from the cpanel. I have downloaded Core FTP le, and FTP voyager. Which one is more user friendly?

Also, how will I manipulate the logo containing header image. I know it is looking really bland right now. Can you help?? Please.

none. its just simple wordpress, just a bit modified.

like i said before. use cuteftp pro. good for beginners. to upload a theme use cuteftp pro to access your root directory. then go to wp-content>themes. Put your wp theme folder here. After you completed transferring your theme, go to wordpress and active it.

what i did was just replace the logo.png with my own custom logo. try to find out in your theme folder which is the logo, then just edit it or replace it with your own logo.

    Hope this helps.

u can msn me if u want, i will try to help as much as i can.

You can use the File Manager in cpanel to upload an archive of the theme to the themes directory and extract it.
