It's currently still in development, but will be done soon, and I'm looking to see if anyone would potentially be interested in buying this....

    an example is at: http://petoskeyclassifieds.rcoders.com/

It has a very smooth user interface and when done will be able to be used as a full on classifieds script, with monetizing abilities in advertisements as well as paid listings.

If anyone is interested in this script once I have completed coding it in PHP, please let me know here, along with possible suggestions.

That's actually simple and nice but since it is incomplete it's hard to judge. When is it going to be done? Is the script unique? Are you selling full rights to the script?

I'm hoping it should only take about another week to complete. A few areas of the front end are already running off the database, so I need to finish a few more pages, and complete coding the administrative dashboard.

The script is completely unique and I'm planning on selling full rights to it to any individuals interested. It's an easy thing to open up in almost any community and compete with other online classifieds if ya know what you're doing.

I'm thinking like... $50 for the script full access would seem fair... give or take. That's without it being hosted or anything, just the zipped php files and the insert for the mysql table. sound about fair?

I'm not sure at this point, if you mean how to handle the adverts. I could probably do something like that, where if the user puts their advert code into a box, it automatically shows those adverts. I probably should make as much automated as I possibly can if I'm going to actually sell the script. This will be my first time selling the script. but I'll definitely keep you guys posted, and I'll post again when the script is completely finished, and like I said, I'm going to try and do it to the fullest and as fast as possible.

I really like how it looks though and the feel I have going for the usability... will be simple to do everything.

I'm thinking that I'm not going to include a paid advert's ability... unless there's a strong user request for it, because it would involve more time setting up the payment system. I'm not sure yet though, I'll figure it out I guess.

Sounds good! =] Glad to see people like the look and feel of it. I'll be posting an update and PM'ing you all within a week or two when it's complete. I'll have instructions and offer to install it myself on your server for an extra $5.

the requirements will be listed, but it's basic stuff... php ... mysql database... phpmyadmin or equivelent... web server obviously....

I'll probably be selling it for $50, but it can definitely make it's money back + alot more if you sell out the advertisement places to local businesses for a monthly or flat rate, and include adsense too.

Sounds good. I'll update everyone soon enough. you can all watch that demo site for changes and updates while I continue to work on it though if you'd like to comment on anything while I add it. some days I may do alot, others I may be busy

My only question is, any suggestions for a name for the software? PHP Classifieds is simple, but taken by another (not so user friendly) script, eClassifieds sounds cool, but is already SEO'd hard by some other higher PR site. It's no real big deal and I don't even completely need a name for the software, but it'd be nice, so if anyone has some good ideas.

Why not just call it pClassifieds (Petoskey classifieds)
And if you're going to have ads included, should probably show the ads in traditional sizes so people can see what it might look like, instead of those custom sizes you have on the demo now.

Definitely interested to see what this looks like when it's done.

Design-wise, that website was my inspiration due to the fact that it has such a smooth design. However only a few graphics are even used from that website, and once my system is off the ground it will lose the image previews because ACTUAL classified ad images will be going there, it will lose the advertisement pictures on the right because ACTUAL ads will be there... those images will completely be removed from it.

Other than graphically speaking where only a few minor cases have been used, on the backend it's completely different. Try and look at any of the source of it's homepage compared to my pages... it's completely different. I built mine from the ground up basically, while looking at the other one. Every single aspect from the way I used a javascript function to take the users to new pages while clicking the td mouseovers, to displaying the ad listings themselves... is different.

I mean, if it's that big of a deal (and I still might do this anyway), I could probably cut down the header TD's to 2/3's the size, to save me some content room, and then completely redesign my graphics there with a similar concept however, and shift my search/ad bar to the other side.

Really, I have the design, development, and graphic development capabilities to do anything I want. Don't get me wrong, that website WAS my inspiration, but when it's all said and done, the similarities will probably be very minuscule.

So as far as I'm aware I'm not breaking any laws or violations, and the project is still under development. I'm not selling a jacked template, I'm coding and attempting to sell a convenient to use, user friendly, somewhat web 2.0 Classifieds system.

so if that is enough to put off a few buyers, so be it. I still plan on developing on the project, and using it myself as well as distributing copies to anyone that's still interested.

Is that done well enough IrieDev? And do you feel I am in the wrong if I continue to use it as my inspiration and try and work it into my own piece of software? I mean straight up it was built line for line basically in dreamweaver. I've got source files of all of my graphics I created too. I was planning on changing the house/money on the top anyway to something more fitting for classifieds.

As far as I know, unless you have been given the right to use their images and design you are in copyright violation.

I understand that you are developing a system form the ground up, so why not do the same for the GUI?

IrieDev, I respect what you're getting at. Please look at the site again however and compare any and all graphics. Sure, the concept may be similar, but I've actually created all of my own graphics now in Fireworks... different fonts from theirs, different graphics, Made my own gradient images for the circles in the headers, made my own damn newspaper, which was lame, because there's probably like 200 freeware clipart ones... but it had to have the same feel as the rest of the stuff.

The ONLY one that isn't COMPLETELY my own graphic at this point, is the advert holder on the right, and the top of the buy page's advert picture. Those will be gone soon, i'll be putting real adverts to show what it looks like.

Everything to the background image is custom made. and actually I don't belive they have a bg image, because they strictly use div's, and mine is more....... well I'm a developer, not the worlds greatest designer.

So is that at least fair enough?

Les_M: I know, There will be advert placeholders where members who own the script can put their own adverts, including the "skyscraper" as I believe you were meaning to show me. I'm thinking on the right for now, whatever ads they want, and then on the details page for each item there will be a place for adverts. I'm trying to keep the left(ish) area clean of ads and clutter to not jam a bunch of things together.
