Hard Drive Search Software

Much is being made of the new Hard Drive Search tools (Google Puffin hard drive search) but new software is out now such as First Stop and the following.

So users can do hard drive searches without having to exchange your files to third parties to target ads back at you, I have provided the above link.

These are desktop search engine products.

I hear that First Stop is a great product also.

 

Those are interesting products. Found the first stop product at http://www.firststopwebsearch.com/ . Shame I haven't heard of them before. I absolutely cringe anytime I have to search for something on my computer, because I know it will take so long. I might try one of these out.

 

Many new products are being introduced, I do not think the Google product will be trusted, since it is being compared to Gator/WhenU which both deliver "so called relevant ads based on what is on your hard drive".

In my case I do not want a bunch of Porno Ads flashed at me cus I have a picture of Elle MacPherson on my hard drive.

So I will not be using any of the ADWARE hard drive privacy violating search tools.

 

Ok, I downloaded and tried Disk Meta (the free version). Gotta say I'm impressed. Lightening fast. Biggest thrill for me was being able to find old emails in the blink of an eye. Far far faster than my email program could find them. All I had to do was add a file extension (free version allows one) to index them. Indexing was quicker than I expected it to be. So far, after 5 minutes of playing around with it, I'm happy. Will see if I stay happy with it over the long haul, but it shows how much better life can be with better technology.

 

I figure that since they only give a 10 days trial on the free version, that it would be a waste of time to load it.

But since you give it a thumbs up, I may buy the professional version now.

hmmm...i could be wrong but i think the 10 days trial was only for commercial use. i think its free forever for personal use.

 

Dazz you are Dazzling today, since you downloaded it so did I, it is a dynamite program.

This thing presents results just like a search engine from your hard drive, damm that is nice, I found files I did not know I had based on a keyword search.

What a great program, Shawn why did you not invent this? This looks like something everyone you should look into and download.

I think you were right Daz, the 10 day trial is for "Office use" whatever that means.

I guess if you are a business user the free version wears off, but how do they (software maker) prove that you are using it for business, that is all I do with my files.

I guess that makes me a software thief

Shawn will like me for that, please do not report this to the software publishers assocaition, I will just claim that I deleted the program.

 

Can you tell me how to search for Emails in Outlook, what files would be isolated to do this?

 

I don't use Outlook so I'm not sure. My email program uses .mbx files. Perhaps outlook does too.

 

Does anyone else know what files to target to sort Outlook emails, everyone should download this software, it is very good "desktop search for files on your hard drive"

 

Outlook stores it in C:\Documents and Settings\account_name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook by default
Just replace account_name with your account name.
