Except a few ones, directories are no longer a good way to get some strong backlinks. People are going for it as it has become a SEO tradition for getting links. Most of the directory page are not even cached by search engines.

 

Most directories will give you a backlink. Many times you will be able to use a title with your keywords and your listings will be placed on a category page with other similar websites.

Be aware that directories are not the 'strongest' links that you can get.

I strongly suggest using directories for keywords that are not that strong. My site has been up for 4 months and i am in the top 10 for most of my keywords
