After studying SEO and backlinks for a while, I made a camera blog. About one specific model, to see how long it'd take me to rank high on google. I made a blogger, wrote up a good review, submitted the review to 7-8 article directories, made a hubpage+squidoo, and then over the next 10 days created 5 backlinks per day to the review. After I ran out of backlinks (30 total, all high quality dofollow, with a few high quality nofollow) I let it chill. It popped up on page 8, and near the end of the 10 days I was on the top of page 2 for that camera keyword (search volume is only 30,000/month, this is mainly experimental though) - After about 5 or 6 days of not adding any more backlinks, it disappeared from the google search entirely (I can't find it 10-15 pages deep). What went wrong here? Is it because it didn't have any attention (no new content or backlinks beyond that 1 review subpage), or what? Any input here is appreciated.
I'd say google ranked you because your site was new and the content was fresh. After you stopped updating the site google stopped ranking you. Well that's my best guess anyways.
1) Hard to say without looking at your site and links 2) You'll have better luck in the Google forum rather than here
It's a blogger, 1 post, probably 1200 word-long well written review with 5-6 pictures, and an aff link at the bottom. The links used are basically the top dofollow/social bookmarks Is it possible that not updating for a week or two will cause it to drop off the google search? I was anticipating it sliding down a few spots or maybe to page 3 at the worst
Don't worry about it. Sometimes, when I have a meteoric rise for a somewhat competitive keyword, I'll be on the front page one day then de-indexed the next. Just wait a week or something, keep building backlinks, and it should be up near the top again.
fresh, updated content is what google is looking for. Don't let anything "chill" especially blogs your definitely on the right track, just don't let your actual pages goes stale because your just building backlinks.
Hey thanks for the advice guys My next blog I'll throw a new post on at least every 5 days to keep it up there. Cheers.
Nothing went wrong, You had a your shot and Google changed its mind. It happens all the time. You should just expect it and plan your process around that. Sometimes one of my posts will be at #1..and then complete disappear and the come back again! What is important is that you have your email capture so that when you get your shot and visitors come, you retain them and start a relationship.
This happens all the time. You have to keep building up links to your page. Over time, you will get your position back. Also, don't rely on just one website/blog, create a few more and target different keywords for more exposure.
I'm working on one or two niche/blogs at a time while I'm still figuring out a blueprint for success - I don't wanna go all out only have have 10 different projects fail simultaneously and get burnt out. I'm putting in some decent time, and when I see a little bit of results from this first blog or two, I'll tweak my blueprint for efficiency and make a few more.
This is a common thing in Seo, Google love fresh content. it gives you temporary boost and a sudden drop. As far as the digital camera industry is concern there are tons of authority sites and similar dozen of sites exchange their ranking for a particular model. When you have to out rank them you atleast have more content compare to these high ranking authority sites.(For a particular Camera model). Also if there subpage is having 10 back links, you must have to build atleast 100 quality links. This is how I out rank High authority sites. Hope This help
I think the problem here is.. you are overly concerned with google ranking.. if you are, you will normally speed up your ranking in a short while, and that is when most ppl got kick backwards to somewhere where no one else can see your site.. I would suggest, if you are really a white hat guy and ve done nothing wrong... just let it be like that for a while.. and continue with normal posting.. like you dun even bother.. eventually you will got back to the top..
It's called the Googlebump. Google gives a bump to fresh sites and fresh content, for like a week or two. Then it dies completely. Give it a few months and it will come back into the rankings. It's a cyclical thing. Some call it a sandbox, but it's really more of a fresh content/fresh site vs trusted content/authority site thing.
