Okay, I'm getting it on this end too. It's strange though because I have another MySQL machine (with a newer version of MySQL) that I can connect to fine. One thing that I just thought of that might be a possibility is how MySQL changed their password encryption scheme in the user's table. My server might have been running long enough that it's using the old password style. Okay with you if I create a dummy/test user on the server with an old style password to test?
by the way, I think you might be right.. I am using new style password. This is because of other MYSQL browser software and of course webmin.
