Whoops, sorry Nintendo, I thought you were showing me a JPG screen capture, didn't know that was live. My bad.

STILL - my original claim that THEY said it was fixed, and that I was waiting on more official word from them stands. Something is still definately going on though.

OK NOW... here's what I think Shawn should do. Set a cookie that increments everytime you visit a new page in a thread. The QUOTE and REPLY buttons should be DISABLED until pages read = ALL PAGES!!!! Damn!

Or maybe more than 10%. :p This is a pretty big thread...

I don't know about the technical details of the problem--I just know that the site: operator, as it exists today, only allows for a very small, restricted set of query types. The "operator", if we can truly call it that, isn't really good for much beyond simple site:domain.com queries.

It was originally created to simply restrict a query to a single domain. The query "site:yahoo.com news" works quite well and returns a lot of yahoo.com links that mention the word news. This is an excellent example of site: working as designed. The truoble comes when you try behavior that the naïve programmer at Google didn't expect, such as my negative query with site: above.

I haven't seen any changes in any pages yet, but some of the prediction tools say we'll get higher PR *fingers crossed*

We should at least do 20% or 25%. 10% of this thread is still only 3 pages...

Right... BUT... the trouble is, G was basing the fact that there weren't actually billions of spam pages in the index based on the simple site: operator being broken, and that is, as far as I know, what they claimed they fixed.

You're right, of course. I mean, you could still cheat by hitting the pages and not reading them, but it would at least make people KNOW that's what they're
    doing...

rubeina - quick question, just so we know, how many pages did you read before replying? (this isn't a criticism, just trying to get a feel for something...)

All they did to 'fix' that was ban the domains. Some one else easily found five million pages of spam in a couple hours that Google missed all week!

The people at Google are the last people I would trust for info on if Google is fixed, especially if his name is Matt!!

Right... but still, I'm waiting for them to officially say that it is fixed. The reason has nothing to do with trusting them, bro, and if you thought about it a little you'd know why. :D

Whatever the URL, that tool is useless, as far as the prediction part goes.

Agreed. I haven't seen one "prediction" tool worth the effort of actually typing in the URL.

I am wondering if this is an official tool bar update coming. It seems this is just a fix for what went wrong on the last tool bar update. Typically Google does a backlink update and then two weeks later the tool bar is updated. I don't see any backlink update yet for any of my sites (checking with link popularity check 3.0).

Most prediction tools seem to be 'very good guesses' at best and since no one knows Google exact algorithm I think that is what they are (guesses). You could probably do as good or better by just checking for your backlinks and their PR's.

551 posts before you, so I ask "Who was spjain talking too..." and SHAKE my magic eight ball.... vigorously... and the answer is....

    HERE!

By this are you guessing that a Toolbar PageRank Update is coming...? That's what this is. The actual question is not what is happening, it's why it's happening the way it is, and in the order that it is. Both a PageRank (the official tool bar brand) and BackLink update are in progress right now. As we speak (or type, for those of you without the handy dandy vbSpeechRecognition plugin). This very moment. As in, no more waiting. Not soon. Now. :)

Yes you're right, and all tools seem to be predicting something else.

But the question is, why do so many websites have PR prediction tools when google algo is secret??

It was a question of guessing PR based on certain parameters like RK+ and others ..

Those were no LIVE PR indicators at all, and you can read more about that here:

It's called Link Bait, and it's an SEO concept. It is similar to Astrology, but more popular amongst webmasters.

Not all predictors were built off of the RK parameter, that was just the latest craze.
