2 nights ago, I was seeing a PR4 on my website for a few DCs, but now I'm back at straight 0s.

Ya if I remember right it took a week since the first signs of an update until it was final last time. But as of right now all data is the old data.

The link is misleading and deceptive. Which is EXACTLY what you intended it to be.

You're welcome to hide behind your "justification" if you wish but you really ought to do yourself a favor and spend some time at www.ftc.gov...

BTW... What was this thread about? PR Un-Date?

You can put a dress on a pig but it is still a pig.

You can try and defend it any way you like, but the implication is a free directory.

It would make sense to advertise it to the customers as free if there were more than 2 paid to view directories on the entire internet. Then you claim might be acceptable, because you would be different than every other site.

Since almost ALL directories are free for visitors, claiming that is what you are advertising is disingenious at best.

And that is the absolute truth.. But it is insulting for people to try and claim the name is there in order to tell visitors it is free of them to view. Clearly that was not the intent. The intent was to mislead webmasters to come there to put up a link and then potentially still end up buying one.

At least people should be honest about their intentions.

Is this thread about Google's PR updates or Chris' marketing techniques?

Either way, my PR hasn't moved.

What is an insult is for you to claim that was my intention. I didn't even think about misleading anyone. It seemed like a good domain name. So, I bought it, and used it. That's all there is to it. I figured that the the free part could be for end users. Like I said before, it is just a name. I don't list it anywhere as free. In all the directory resource web sites, it is in the paid category. It's clearly listed as paid on the submit form, etc.

Hey, is anyone else getting a bunch of neg rep for disagreeing with the whole deceptive thing...? Like, of the cowardly anon variety? Just wondering.

For those who do not know, PR/BL tools can SOMETIMES give a false 0, even when there is no update going on. Is has to do with querying Google and the way the XML is returned on a hiccup. If you see a 0 in a list of DC's where the rest are all the same value (ie, as Nintendo did), it does not necessarily mean fluctuation...

Try 2 things if you see this:

    1) Hit reload, see if you see it again
    2) Open up a browser and paste that IP/URL in, see if you get a Google page. If not, it just means that address is not responding atm.

A website I left dead had its PR go from 2 to 1.

One of my PR 0 websites that is new and has around 70 back links indexed by Google (it has a lot more in reality) still has a PR of 0! I hope Google isn't done with their update!

Dave I think where you are mistaken is the fact that the text 'Free Web Index Directory' is not advertising for the directory, it is the name of the directory. If you get anywhere with your lawsuit let me know, I'd like to sue Best Western - I've seen better, Safeway - their pineapples are prickley, not safe, Best Buy - seen better buys, we can go on and on.
