are you crazy :) there are folks who's waiting years to have a chance to get listed there :) . If some of the officials from ODP will hire something like that they can get stroke:) . Of course wait a hour and you will get the answer with the '' guidelines '' :) and other things nice like '' quality '' bla bla .. . How much time for you guys need to understand this directory is just controlled by peoples who don't care about nothing except their interests ? They list what they wanna , when they wanna , if they have a reason to do it.

    Become an editor?
    Comply with the guidelines?

Generally speaking though, to get a DMOZ listing, the word INSTANT is a word many would never think of.

Maybe it's sold. I know nothing about headlights and me asking about them would look funny with the car parts sig links I have *shrug* If that's not the case, then heh...

Not surprising really. Look at all the SEO blogs out there that actually do claim to know and claim that an ODP link is the link of all links.

At least this one is honest and is not just spouting stuff they heard on blogs posted YEARS ago ;)

Though I guess it's a matter of which is worse, an SEO specialist claiming the ODP is tops, or one that doesn't even know how it works *shrug* maybe they are in the same boat...

Good advice LimOO, :) I do think the number of listed sites in a category affects the chances of submission. Good luck bud.

I'm afraid this is simply not true. Suggesting your site to a category where it does not belong is very likely to delay its review, because it will need to be moved by a volunteer to the correct category and probably await re-review there.
As always, the best plan is simply to follow the instructions and submit once to the single most appropriate category for your site, and then stop worrying about it.

Trying to guess where or when the review will happen is a complete waste of time, because volunteers are free to do any one of a number of editing tasks, and even in a small category with a listed editor, there is no guarantee that he or she will choose to look at suggestions.

It's unfortunate that the terms 'instant approval' and 'web directory' have become linked. A directory by it's nature must direct the user to the content the person is looking for. If a website lists sites in categories without a human being editing those submissions then that is not a directory. It could be called a link farm but whatever, why would you want to be linked to a bad neighbourhood.

google will never consider '' bad neighborhood '' links from ODP even if some of links are spam , (was spam since they was added there and still they are listed there ), just because they copy/paste the odp links for their own directory :) ...

I wasn't suggesting ODP is a bad neighbourhood, just commenting on 'instant approval' directories.

Easiest way is to buy domain already listed either one that is expired or about to expire or simply buy some out of date website which who's owner will probably gladly sell you domain which he isn't using, there are tons of such websites listed in DMOZ you just have search a bit.

After you buy domain make sure it doesn't go 404 or automated bot will detect it and delisted the website but anything else is beyond its capabilities, you can totally change content by placing porn, warez, bomb making and it can take years before some editor decides to check the content, of course unless you brag about it around especially on this forum. :D

It was also pointed to me that some categories got new editors who listed their own website and done nothing else so that is another way to get in but you have to be good at creating fake profiles and faking your IP.

Ha! I laughed out loud when I read this. Not to be mean, but you would be lucky to get you link posted within the year on DMOZ. Last I checked, they weren't taking any new editors either. Good Luck!

It occurs to me that in buying sig links, one risks being associated with the views of a post's author.

I don't know if elmine's sig links are his or have been sold - but that doesn't matter because I don't care either way :D.

Something to consider, to be sure, although advice such as that given by elmine, while extremely foolish and inaccurate, is not the same as actually offering a bribe.

there is no way to get any instant approvals with DMOZ, you just submit and forget about the site.

I submitted a site of mine to DMOZ.org and 2 weeks later I spotted a refferal from their site. Couldnt believe it!

I would advise you to submit only when you are confident your site has something to offer readers. I wouldnt wait around for approval , but I also would not knock the work that the editors do.

In any case , best of luck dude!

Just need to select the right section, but the rest does not depend on you! For example, my site for the construction already in the application for review of 5 months and only awaits the consideration of 1400 sites!

    Thanks
    Sincerely, Artem.
