Question About Wordpress SEO Permalink

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by blueboxer, Feb 15, 2009.

I currently have my "Permalink" setup as

    %blog title%/%category%/%postname%

My blog title is long, so all the search results have the same description link.

Using or disregarding what I just mentioned, what is the best Permalink structure for SEO?

For page namings.. use this combination:

    /%postname%/%post_id%/

If you want to control the meta description, install All in One SEO plugin for wordpress.

I only use postname because I frequently file one post in multiple categories. I will go with sultanofseo's suggestion (he is sultan afterall :D )

I would suggest category and postname... the category tag can provide keyword clues and segmentation to the search engine.

    I go with %blog title%/%category%/%postname%.html

A lot of popular bloggers seem to like the %blog title%/%postname%.html permalink.

If you're writing about news, the date along with category and post name gives an idea to the user about the time the post was made.

It is a personal choice IMO. Some take post name only because they believe their post keywords will get maximum "weight" in that option.

Just go for %postname% . Don't fill the blog post title with keywords.

Set permalinks to date - postname

If you use just postname, after a few months you will run out of names. Having the date in front of the postname allows you to reuse the same postname again and again. I went with just postname for about 6 months and it became restrictive and counter productive.

Why do you believe it makes sense?

Just an FYI: I am just posting articles for SEO purposes. They are really not news worthy.:D:D

It your site is well-structured and the domain is short enough then /category/post/ is the best I think. (well-structured means obviously the post must logically belong to the category).
    Otherwise only /post/ is fine.

I use headspace plugin (better than all in one imo) and specify exactly what I'd like each page or post title to say.

I have been reading on this for days. Most of the SEO Guru Blogs, seem to use simply /postname/. Thus I am thinking of going this route. However, what do you guys think about :

    http://dougal.gunters.org/blog/2009/02/04/efficient-wordpress-permalinks

It seems that starting it with a number as in Date or ID then postname is best for Wordpress as down the road you may run into problems. My question is, is it really a factor as all the SEO guru's seem to be just doing postname?
