If your ATM card is only ATM card then you can't use it at merchant shops but if your ATM card is ATM cum Debit card then only you can use it at merchant shops. DON.
If your ATM card has the Visa/Mastercard logo on it, then you can use it as a credit card online, if not, then you can't.

Majority of the ATM cards issued by Indian Banks are debit card too....But then, Indian debit cards are not allowed for Paypal verification... What other use you have in mind for a Debit Card..online? Regards, RightMan
I have smart card and it has M net logo on it. I read in guideline book that it is also debit card. How i can use ATM card at merchant shops online? I know how to use offline. How to find such banks which offer this facility in my country (pakistan). currently, i can not afford USD account
Some country already combine the ATM card with debit card. If it is debit card, then it shall have VISA/MASTER logo (Only pure ATM card dont). If it is debit card, then you might receive the card number on your bill (CC do have those number at the behind but debit card normally dont). Or you can call to the bank and require for the number. With the numbe, you can use it online
ATM card cannot be a debit card, debit will have a magnetic strip carrying your account information to use it for card purchase
If you tried to shop online with your existing card. This info is forwarded to the service provider they can enable your card for online shop on your spl. request. So try and request it will take 2-3 working days only.
