Currently my non www urls are indexed in google but i want it to index the www ones rather than ones wtihout www. How do i do this. I had already performed a 301 redirect, so when i type in mysite.com in the search bar, it goes to www.mysite.com but how do i get google to index www.mysite.com rather than mysite.com. Also, i have added the www version of my site in webmasters tools of google, and have choesen the www as the preffered one to appear in search enginges, but google still doesnt index my www site. It has been a week. Any help appreciated. Regards
first thing you should do is 301 redirection of non www url to www url.... then in Google webmaster tools account set the domain with www for Google's indexing.
Creat xml sitemap for your site and submit it in your webmaster tool. Now onwards, your pages will be cache with www it will take some time because Google will cache your pages one by one but don't worry your all pages will be cached with www in future.
Pkay thanks. anyone know how long. Ive done all the tree things alana and seodilp have mentioned above nearly a wekk ago, but the change is still to take place . Thanks.
SEOdilip has given you the exact steps. Setup 301 correctly and set your preferred domain in google webmaster tools (first step is not mandatory but advised)
You should give it a time actually, changing it in google webmaster tools works actually. But to do it in a proper way - you shold change your .htaccess for www redirect, there are plenty of manuals all over the web for this
Google does NOT index every page as soon as it is listed. You get put on a list and WHEN Google gets to you, then they MIGHT index your page or not. This could take MONTHS depending how far down the list you are.
