8 yr old IT site. Makes $1,000 net pm. Self-running

On behalf of a friend I'd like to put this site up for sale.

Established: Dec 30th 1998.

A site about building PCs and other advice, tips, help on PC hardware and software etc. Content is all original as far as I know. The original author/owner has signed a copyright.

(I may be moving the site to a new server later so if it does go down please try again in a few minutes)

Pluses:

- Old domain that's been in continuous registration since 1998. Domains this old don't come up for sale often. When they do they are often drop-catches where the domain expired and was re-registered. That is NOT the case here.

- The domain has never had a Google penalty. Traffic goes up and down a bit over the years and each time Google makes a change or two to their algorithm

- IBLs that are many years old. You cannot duplicate this and SEs are giving a lot of importance to older links over newer ones. Yahoo shows 1450 IBLs.

- Possibility of regaining rankings with a little TLC and restoring traffic to about 7 times what it is now. Earnings will likely increase too.

- Strong PR. Lots of PR5 pages (and plenty of PR4s as well)

Minuses:

- The site has been neglected. No new link building or new content for years (though there was a small attempt to migrate to a new design last year).

- Some of the content is very old ... but, strangely, people still come to view it a lot.

Stats

The site used to do 9-10K pages a day according to Adsense stats (Jan-May 2005) then it took a hit in an algo change and dropped to about 500-600 pages a day and picked up again in Oct 2005 to 2-3K visitors, then it dropped in November to 500-600 and picked up again in December. All of this year it has done an average of 1400 pages per day. Throughout that time there has been no promotion, no link building, no advertising etc. Most of the traffic comes from SEs.

Site is easily edited in Frontpage or similar program. Lots of the design - like the flash ads etc - are include pages. Even the Google ads are include pages so you could change most of the site very easily by editing half a dozen files.

Earnings:

Only from Adsense. Started Adsense end Dec 2004.

Figures for 2005: Average of 3K pages a day with total earnings of $12,200 (little more than $1,000 per month)
Figures for 2006: Average of 1400 pages a day with total earnings of $6,600 (little more than $1,100 per month)
There have been some earnings from link sales too (about $5,000 per year) but I'm ignoring that for purposes of calculating BIN as there is no proof for these earnings. There are no obligations on the new owners to keep ANY of the existing outgoing links.
Costs: Nothing. It was sharing hosting with another site so there were no hosting costs (you can get shared hosting for less than $10 pm). There are no advertising or any other costs. And there was no time spent on the site. All the profit is net profit really.

What you can do with it.

1. Just leave it as it is and it will probably continue to make at least $1,000 a month
2. Spend some time removing links, adding content etc and you'd probably increase the traffic/earnings by several multiples. It has all the core features to build on and which you can't get on a new site.
3. Keep existing earnings and sell links. With that many PR5 pages it's got to be worth at least a few extra hundred every month.
4. Something else altogether - use your imagination. It's a rare gem of a site.

Why this sale?

The site was bought by an IT company who had some plan with it but never got around to doing anything so I'm making a small profit by finding it a new owner.

MoronZombie, that's right. As I said earlier this site was acquired by that company and they posted that notice about a year ago but never did any updating. Now, you get a chance to do it instead

This site has a lot of potential as far as a hardware help desk situation. If I had the time and money it would be mine. I've always wanted to make a nice site for all the people wanting to build their own computers like I enjoy. I'm sure that with all those keywords in the url's it's not hurting it in the rankings Good luck with the sale.
