Hello world, I think that the USA (and the anglosaxon world in a general way) have a particular relation with France. To my mind, we used to like each other, but our links seem to have been damaged since a couple of years. Being a French man, born in France and having always lived in France, I think I'm able to answer to most of your questions. And if you want to learn French (and correct my English if necessary), you're welcome.
The nuclear testing in Muroa Atoll wasn't great, and I'm not a big fan of foie gras - but, I have no prejudices towards France. I was in France in 2004 and even though I could barely speak French, everyone was really friendly and helpful.
I'm glad your experience in France was pleasing. Concerning the nuclear testing, it was of course an initiative of the governement of this time. Most French people didn't endorse that in any way. The foie gras is a really delightful thing, even if it sometimes implies some pain for the animals - but many progresses have been made concerning that, and there are very strict controls. If you have any other thing to say, don't hesitate.
Hehe I'm from Québec, and sometimes the French call us Farmers, cause of our accent, and that gets on my nerve, but I don't have any grunge against french. Parce que on parle le méme langue, Ça dit pas qu'on est le méme... (Mes accents marché pas ...)
ALMOST everything is great about France, I'm very fond of the bakery and pastry , wines, perfumes, wonderful landscapes... Vive la France!
+ women, architecture, music, and cars: I'm a babbling nutcase for Renaults, Cits, and Pugs @ MrBlonde : I'm sorry, but you'll just have to face it .. most of us love France
I've heard that paris is a city with lots of sluts and all... Have heard that couples will have sex publicly(May be an exaggeration..
Salut, Knowing both countries, I would say most of the US people talking about France doesn't know anything about our country and vice-versa @manlyseo: hum, could be true Regards Thibaut
I've heard some people said that french people don't really like to talk english. They are more proud of their own native language than others. How true is that?
Yes, they have long particular relationship. The statue of liberty is a present from France to US . lol
I would you say this deals with two historic facts: - Because of our colonial past, French used to be a widely used language and therefore we didn't really need to learn other languages before the world wars. - After the war, when English became more popular, it was obvious we had to learn the Shakespeare language. Unfortunately, the way English was taught was very bad: basically we learnt it like ancient languages like Latin, focusing on grammar only That's the reason why most of our parents doesn't know how to speak English even after many years of English lectures Fortunately this is no longer true today as English education has been reviewed focusing more on speaking and starting the learning earlier (At 6 years old). Furthermore the people of my generation have been confronted to two major new situations that obliged them to speak English: globalization and Internet. Bonne journée (Have a nice day) Thibaut
my ex-girl friend was a french damn She cheated on me and dumped me when I found out that, I hate french after that lol..
This is an interesting thread. Thank you for opening up conversation and clearing around mis-information. The couple things I've heard about France was the a. Paris was a very dirty city 2. the French people do not like Americans and are quite rude because of that. Thanks!

Hairy women and dirty people are the most heard misconceptions about France I heard from both American and Canadian people. But as for most funky ideas, they disappear as soon as they actually meet one or two French guy or girl. I guess they're mostly jealous of the French kiss
never been there so dont really have a feeling either way.I have heard they are rude though..any truth to it?
I like them more then Americans . I think they are classic europeans. I think that french language is among of 5 most beautiful languages. I would like to see Verdon gorge... Would like to watch Metz or Rennes soccer game.
