Retirement is just 9 days away

In 9 days, I'm going to start treating webmastering as my full time job. I'm not making a boatload of money right now - but I'm never going to unless I put in a concerted effort and make my offline business a much lower priority.

This is turning into a much more difficult proposition to accomplish than I thought it would be - my customers are all of a sudden coming up with more projects that are hard to turn away from - especially with the knowledge that it will take me several months to over a year to get to a point where my current monthly bills are covered.

    I really can't wait though.

Congratulations Steve, I'm sure with your dedication you'll make a big success of it. I'm a house sale and purchase away from doing the same :)

I would look at it as starting a new career instead of retiring ;)

Hey, good luck with it. :)

A few years ago I was agonising with going into webhosting, when suddenly I landed a SEO contract - something I'd neve really though of going into business with.

The money was less than I was on (and I was unemployed at the time!!) but it seemed a break worth taking a risk with.

    Never looked back since. :)

The only word of warning is that going full-time was literally like jumping into the deep end - the commercial pressures were greater.

Also, be on top of your admin from the start - I didn't and paid for it later!

    Good luck! :)

    Way to go Nevets,

Whatever you drop in terms of benefits and security, you'll make up for in self-satisfaction, lack of bs and time-wasting scheduled meetings. Horrendous bosses will be a thing of the past. You might not be able to take a big holiday for a year or two, but you won't need it.

You'll be free to say, stuff it. It's such a beautiful day I'm going to spend it with my wife, my kids, my dog ... whatever.

You can work all night if you want, knowing that the time put in and the benefits are yours.

    Go for it!

Thanks for all the good thoughts. I'm 33. I know it's really shifting to a new career, but this stuff is all fun for me and like someone said - I can work on my own schedule, enjoy time with the kids, go golfing. I live literally a few blocks from a golf course and in the past 4 years since I lived here I haven't gotten out once.

I actually have a few pretty decent money making ideas that wouldn't be possible if I wasn't doing this. I can't wait to have a week where I get 8 hours of sleep for 5 days straight. This is a great way to have personal empowerment.
